    Check Condition of Line 1

e3005AC with Fax board. FW1060. I have dial tone and the fax line is plugged into the Line connector not Tel.

All fax TX/RX are failing to transmit.

Any idea what is causing this error message on the bottom of the LCD panel? "Check Condition of Line 1"

I restarted the copier and I re-initialized the fax card. There is a sheet of paper in the Doc Feeder and the blue lamp is on.

From what you stated in your post it sounds like your phone line is dead. I always have carried around an old phone with me to confirm line condition. By doing this it gets the copier completely out of the equation and it's eaiser to demostrate to the customer that they either have a bad line or no line at all. You can also try calling their fax line from your cell phone and watch to see if the fax picks up or you just get a busy signal. Generally if you press the monitor key and you get that message it means you do not have a dial tone. Also you did not state in your post if this fax was working prior to your call.

Just because you have dial tone does not mean that you have communication.

Connect that analog handset. I usually dial my cell to see if it rings, check the phone #, and listen for static from both ends. Then I'll dial the handset to see it it rings, and if there's static.

That's a great way to discover oddball things, like a distinctive ring, or a phone line that never rings, or the other fax machine on the same phone line picking up first.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: Check Condition of Line 1

    1) From when I left the call the previous PM to when I returned to the call the next Am, the message disappeared.

2). I think it has to do when I was advised by Tech Support to switch from PSTN to PABX. The next day I switched back and forth from PSTN and PABX several times. Switching back to PSTN, I was able to make the error message go away.

3). The customer has to add 9 to their dial string to access an outside fax line and send a fax locally. I was able to send a fax locally A-OK.

4). I need to wait a few days to review the fax TX/RX logs.

5). The exact message is: "Please confirm the cable or equipment for Line !"

Hi, please switch back to PSTN and set 13-104 from default 1 to 0 and test it, hope this helps.

Re: Check Condition of Line 1

A few years back, I bought a USB modem for my notebook, as nearly no computers have on board modems these days. All of about $35.

It came with some nifty fax software.

This is the equivalent of carrying a fax machine with me, as I can use it to send and receive.

Of course, it only works with analog lines, but still comes in quite handy.

Having that beater old-timey phone in your tool bag is a must for preliminary testing.
