    e Studio 6540 scan issue

    Here's a strange one:

I have (4) documented occurrences in a year (and 8 months in between). Two color scans, one black & white scan, and one black & white copy. This customer scans sets of 1000 pages or more. That's when the problem occurs. In the last sample scans turned solid black on page 893, then on pg 943 turned to gray "noise". As far as I can tell there is none of the original image in the problem scans. The samples that you see are all oriented LT (portrait), and scanned the same.

I've been a bit at a loss as to how to proceed on this. Earlier I went through and cleaned and re-seated all the connectors on the CCD and SLG. It's hard to justify ordering $1K boards when it occurs so infrequently.

I see the most likely choices as the CCD, ribbon cable, and SLG.

I have not been able to repeat the problem after a lot of scanning, so I have no idea if a change of settings might help (or not). There are no errors or jams for the time period of the anomaly, so diagnostics is not of much help.

    Has anyone seen this?:

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Are the iron ferrite cores installed on the DF cables? and is the DF earthed correctly? It def looks like video noise corruption rather than a fault as such with the scanner. I am just wondering if static is building up somewhere due to the amount of scans involved and then causing image corruption between the CCD and SLG maybe? Does the flat cable allow you to insert a ferrite core at all? It's a guess though.

Try installing a Tripp Lite LC2400 line conditioner. I had a similar problem, the customer blamed the copier but the problem was an unstable power supply from the wall.

There is a ferrite core on the ribbon from the CCD to the SLG, and on the cable from the SLG to the LGC. Getting the power upgraded is always hard to justify, even when you're sure and can match errors to power events. It will be a hard sell.

I've installed a CCD and did the color calibrations. The power quality analyzer shows G-N below 1 vac, H-N within ±6%. Not perfect, but perfectly acceptable. I'll check back in a week. =^..^=

    network speed?

maybe a long shot but try putting a switch between copier and network socket

has solved weird ones in the past , or set machine to 100
