Question Advice on Printing Problem ES 4511

Hi All,

I have just recently purchased a second hand Es4511 photocopier.

The copier itself works pervectly, but I am having some difficulties when printing from the computer to the photocopier.

No matter which driver I use, the copier will only print in black and white.

Whilst I am a complete newbie to copiers, I am very good at computer matters generally and have done all the normal things of down loading the latest drivers, checking all of the setting in the control panel dialog boxes etc.

When I downloaded the drivers from Toshiba, there was an accompanying note say that these drivers work only with firmware T350SY04006 or later.
Having printed out the function list on the copier, the firmware version installed is T350SY0X350.

I am happy to get a local techie to do the upgrade if required.
What I would like to know however if this is likely to be the cause of such a problem before I start spending money doing stuff.

I have tried all of the drivers on three different computers (XP Pro, Vista 32bit, Vista 64bit) with the same result on all.

Any advice is greatly appreaciated.

Thanks in advance,

Ian

Hi Decimal,

I have tried:

ES4511/451 Series PS3 - prints fine in black and white
E-Studio Color PS3 - prints fine in black and white
E-Studio Es4511 Series PCL5c - prints imgaes ok black and white, text is not printed, but shown as solid black areas

I haven't tried the PCL6 as I read somewhere that it is a black & white print emulator.

Thanks

Ian

You should just have to use the PLC5c driver, make sure in driver properties you change black and white or color as default. It should be that easy.

Hi Lucky777

I agree, that it should be as easy as you have noted. Unfortunately, in this instance it is not that easy.

I am getting the service tech from Toshiba to do a service call - hopefully he will be able to resolve the problem.

If I get a resolution, I will post it to this thread.

Cheers,

Ian

Where did you get the driver from? What OS are you using it in?

The driver came from Toshiba's Australian Web Site. I have also downloaded the drivers from the US web site - exactly the same.

The copier is part of a network.

It is connected to the router with it own IP address on a tpc/ip port.

Three computers are also on this network.

1: XPpro
2: Vista 32bit
3: Vista 64bit

I have loaded and tried all the drivers noted above on each of the computers with exactly the same results on each computer.

Having run out of ideas, I was guessing (hoping?!?) that it was a conflict between the drivers and the firmware, although someone I was speaking to said that he thought these machines were able to be directed to print black and white only through some settings in the copier itself. I have read the relevant parts of the manual and done the usual google search and have found no confirmation of this.

What do you think, am I barking mad with the idea of the firmware?

Thanks for you input.

Cheers,

Ian

There is no option for black and white or color printing "only" in any service mode. You can choose which one to default to, but would still be able to access both. Usually used to avoid people printing in color on accident and costing the bosses money.

Toshiba's site does not always have working drivers and they can be corrupted. As techs we download straight from their FTP site. Send me your email and I'll send you the proper, working driver for that firmware version.

Hi All,

I now have the machine working as it should.

It transpires that there was probably two issues:

1. The incompatibility of the drivers to the firmware
2. A dodgy Hard drive.

Lucky777 kindly sent some drivers to me to try out (Thankyou Lucky777). - no noticable difference on the one driver I had tried.
I was in the process of doing so when the techie from Toshiba arrived on my doorstep. He upgraded the firmware, but on doing so, the hdd totally gave up the ghost.
I was able to source another hdd from the company who sold me the copier. I swapped the drives over, and everything is now working as it should.
With the most recent firmware T350SY04006 & the current drivers, the copier will happily print in color from XPPro, Vista 32bit and Vista64bit.

My thanks to all who helped.

Cheers,

Ian
