No fax on Toshiba e-studio 16

When trying to send an outgoing fax, I hear the dial-tone, but then the machine cuts off. Does this for the programmed retries and then gives up and prints fax failure message. It started today. Was working fine for the past 6 months or so.

1st thing i would try is clearing the pix memory... press the programme button, when you see the menu appear on the screen, press & release in sequence... *#**
you should then be in service mode, scroll down to test mode & press set, then scroll down to maintanance & press set, select clear memory, when you press set you need the 1st item ( clear pix memory )
then i usually switch off & back on again after clearing it.

2nd thing, is the fax lead ok? have you tried another lead?
is the socket ok? have they made any changes to their phone system?

i'm assuming that the fax lead is plugged into the correct hole on the back of the machine as you say you get dial tone, people often unplug the wire ( cleaners are bad for this ) & then plug it into the NIC by mistake.

good luck.

HI,

You send fax by Memory TX or Direct TX? Try compare and see what happened.

Thanks for you assistance. It's much appreciated. Ok. Tried that, but still get the same problem. So then I tried clearing ALL MEMORY instead of only clear pix memory. There's now a message on the display reading MAINTENANCE/DRUM. The problem with the fax persists, however.

I've tried both Memory TX and Direct TX. When I use Direct TX, The machine proceeds to scan, pauses, I hear dial tone, but no dialing is made. The machine then feeds paper out. Then COMMUNICATION ERROR is displayed on display.

Silly question but is the phone line is plugged into "LINE" and not the "TEL" jack?

Yes. If I use the monitor button, I get a dial tone, I manually dial the number and there is no problem transmitting or receiving faxes. However, the problem starts up when I set it to send a fax the normal way.
