    Toshiba 3511 Black Pages

I have an issue with one of my Toshiba 3511 units. During my last large print job and either before or during the unit adding black toner, it was printing full pages in black. I bought the machine used so I have no idea what PM was done to it other than what I have done, as the PM mode was never updated.

When I noticed the black pages, I interrupted the job and just fiddled around with it to make sure all connection were tight and so on. It would print more pages and out of the blue it would start with the black pages again. Some times the pages were not entirely black but almost large streaking.

I ran a small print job on it that was in color about a month ago and it spit out a few pages in full yellow. This all happened after the unit was updated to firmware 4006 but I can't say if it was because of the update. I'm afraid to update my other units with the firmware in case it was. The unit has over 350k, the drum & transfer belt recently replaced and cleaned well. I also had the machine apart to change a stripped gear on the transfer belt cleaning unit but the problem happened before that.

I don't have a way to recreate the problem, it seems to happen at no particular time. Any advise?

    Lightbulb

    power off machine
hold the 6 and the "start" button down while turning on
when it says test mode press 2 then start
this is the pm counters for all the components
    08-251 should be at 150000
If not then that is why there is no pm message or incrementing of the 08-252 code.

As to the full coverage of any color on this machine is simply the main charge not being applied correctly. Could be a loose needle electrode or a power supply issue. It could also be that the counters were not zeroed out after changing them. This causes the logic to add voltage to correct for wear which is not there.

Hvt will cause this, but also the charge, quite often you will get a build up of toner on the main charger & on the charge block on the inside of the rear frame, this arcs out the charge & covers the drum in toner.

Mr Spock, do you have different pm intervals in the US than we do in europe? just curious because you say that the pm cycle is 150000 on the 3511, in the uk it's 120000 & for the 4511 is 150000.
if the machine is set at a pm interval of 150K, that may explain your troubles.

No I just listed the 4511 pm cycle because I could not remember if this was a 3511 or 4511 while I was typing. I do have most of my machines set for 150k on the 3511 but if I have any issues and it is over 120k then they get the pm first.

I have a big print job that will be getting done this week. I will clean this machine and install a epu kit that I'm sure it is over due for before the print job is started.

Thank you very much for your input. I'll check in if it happens again.

The epu kit seems to have fixed the black page problem, most defiantly the charge grid.

If the 3511 and 4511 use the same parts why is there a difference in the PM schedules? What actually make the 4511 10 PPM faster than the 3511?

and keep in mind that sometimes the PM counter is changed by the company that originally setup the machine, or that services it. The policy for the setups on toshiba's where I am set's the PM to 150000 on all machines.
