Toshiba 351c fax problem

Guys, I have a toshiba 351c with a 1 line fax board. I had the phone line connected to a brother fax machine and was able to send and receive with out any problems. However when the 351c gets connected instead of the brother I am able to send only. When attempting to receive, I get error: 00B3 and error 00D0 which all seem to indicate a line problem. I have double and tripple checked the line and this does not seem to have any issue with it.

Does any one have any other ideas....it seems to be strange as I am able to send with out any problems.

Thanks.

Jim

Are you sure it's an analog line?

Yes, its an analog (POTS) line....it works fine when sending, just not receiving.

Check the polarity of the wall jack. The brother may have been correcting it while the Toshiba cannot.

I checked the polarity and it was reversed. I have now swtiched it, however I am still having problems.

When transmitting to the HP fax back testing service I used two methods:

Method 1: ECM on, I received a TX failure error 0050 (busy, even though I dont believe that the service was busy)

Method 2: ECM off, I am able to transmit fine.

When receiving, I have left ECM off and get error 00B3 from a varitey of fax machines.

Does any one have any other ideas?

Thanks,

Jim

Are you sure you follow the right procedure for installing and set-up of FAX option?
Check W1/W2 ground connection if corresponds to destination setting 08-701.
Did you initialize the memory after above settings?
Check firmware versions for machine and fax options - get latest.

ivovb, I am not a Toshiba tech, and thus do not understand exactly what you are asking. I more of a programmer/ EE and have spent years installing cat 5 and phone lines....could you give me a little more information?

Thanks.

I see.
You need installation instruction for GD-1200 but generally it is like this:
1. On the Fax PWA there are two pins named W1 and W2. For USA you have to connect W2 to the ground. Cable must be furnished with GD-1200.
2. Go to 08 mode (press 0 and 8 and power on the copier) set 701 code to 4 - USA and Canada. Turn off copier.
3. Go to 1* mode (press 1 and * and power on the copier) set 100 - start - initialize. Turn off copier.

I can be more specific if you invite me to California!

ivovb, thanks again for your help. The fax board is installed in the machine already, im not too sure how to look at the two pins named W1 and W2. I assume they are set correctly as this machine was purchased from another person living in the US.

I also checked the 08 mode to ensure that it was set to USA and it was.

I performed the 1* mode init and tried again.

I am able to send fine but receiving I get errors:

76839501/27/2009 15:18:0900:540FAXBACK EC5 00B3Line1
76739201/27/2009 15:00:4300:480FAXBACK EC5 00B3Line1

Do you have any other ideas that I could try including slowing down the communication lines?

Oh, BTW, I have hooked another phone to this line to check for line static or other problems but dont seem to hear any.

Thanks again for all your help.

-Jim
