Toshiba DP 2570 won't go to ready

I have a Toshiba Dp 2570 that will not go to ready and does not display any codes. I checked fuser and all is good. I heard that it may be the HDD. Can I use any off the shelf HDD or does it have to be from Toshiba?

As I recall the HDD was an option on this machine. You might try just removing or disconnecting it and see what happens. I have also had a lot of grief on these machines from the pre-cleaning corona in the cleaner unit. Make sure it is clean and not arching. Also a worn/ damaged charge grid makes these do funny things.
