Exclamation Scan to USB problem on Toshiba 6530c

I have tried to scan to various USB flash drives on the Toshiba 6530c. Some are recognised, others are not even if it is by the same manufacturer (identical types and sizes of drives). The affected USB drives are not recognised in the print function either.

USB drives which are ok light up when connected. The others don't.

What I can't understand is that all the USB flash drives load up fine in WINDOWS XP. Have even reformatted the affected drives from FAT to FAT32 and vice versa, but it does not rectify the problem

Does anyone know why the 6530c recognises some USB drives but not others?

I did had problem with e2820c and Scan to USB mode.
It was the firmware. Check and update ?
This machines has similar firmware to e2820c.

I have had some drives work and some not on the 4520c series. On another note you might find that even a USB HDD or a USB SD Card reader will work for you Just plug it in and try, I know for a fact the HDD and Flash Card reader work, YMMV depending on brand.

A couple of points with Scan to USB

1. The USB device has to be formatted as 'FAT'. The machine can't read 'FAT32', 'NTFS' or other different types of partitions.

2. Toshiba's will only recognise certain sizes of flash drives. This is sometimes dependant on the machine and the firmware version on that particular machine.

3. From memory, the biggest limiting factor is the read / write speed of the flash drive. If it doesn't meet certain requirements, then the machine won't read it.

4. Make sure that if the flash drive has write protection, it is turned off.

5. And this is what the service manual says.
- A device compliant with the following specifications established by USB-IF (USB Implementers
Forum)
Class number: 8 (=08h) (Mass storage class)
Sub-Class number: 6 (=06h) (SCSI transfer command set)
Protocol number: 80 (=50h) (Bulk-only)

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Thankyou for all your replies.

I checked the firmware and it's version T430SY0E115 which I think is the latest one.

In the documentation it says the USB drive for scanning and printing must be FAT16 or FAT32 format, Single partition and maximum 2GB.

I've checked the USB drive and it's 2GB with a single partition. I did reformat it to FAT32 previously but it didn't solve the problem.

So I'm really confused

I think it's like old Win98. It support pendrive after unofficial service pack but not every pen was working. Any pen off specification is reject .

USB STICKS

The problem is the USB Stick. If you have Version 115 Firmware then it's your stick. There was a Bulletin put out last week making mention of this. To be 100% safe I use a Toshiba stick formatted FAT and have never had an issue. We have had techs who have gone and brought a cheapie USB stick and the copier will not see it. Also if the USB stick has some software for encription or whatever remove it( especially if you are updating Firmware) as it causes issues.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

WOMBAT - As I'm more used to working on Apple Macs, how do you remove the encryption software using a PC?

Just format the USB drive as FAT. This should wipe everything on the drive.
