Question Toshiba eStudio 550

My church just received a used Toshiba eStudio 550 printer. It has a GL-1140 controller in it and needs the latest software upgrades. I successfully networked the printer and have access to TopAccess.

1. Where can I get the latest software upgrade and how do I install it?
2. There is one printer listed "default" without software drivers. How can I install the correct drivers onto the printer server?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks. I already downloaded the drivers from that website and don't really know how to install them with the toshiba server.

I have gone the toshiba printer server and clicked the default printer and said connect. In XP, a window pops up saying that the drivers cannot be located. Do you want to locate the drivers yourself. I click YES and point to the downloaded drivers.

In Vista, I cannot use this method as Vista does not let me locate my own drivers. I would like help in configuring both the Toshiba Printer server and Vista to install the drivers.

Thanks

For the XP based machines

step 1 download the driver
step 2 double click on the driver file to extract it (it is a zipped file or a self extracting zipped file)
step 3 run the add printer wizard
step 4 click next
step 5 (for the ease of installation I am using the lpt port for this example) choose the local printer option and uncheck automatically find box click next
step 6 at use port select the lpt port (you can change later) click next
step 7 choose have disk option click browse then goto the directory that it installed into and highlight oemsetup.inf then click open then click ok
step 8 click on the UC version of the listed drivers
step 9 then answer the following screens and click next until the last screen and click finished on it.
step 10 right click on the machine (Toshiba....) and goto properties
step 11 go to the ports tab and add new port (if you are not actually using the parallel port) and click add port
step 12 click on standard tcp/ip port then click add
step 13 click next then enter the ip address of the printer on the next screen.
step 14 click next and next until the last screen and click finished.
this will take you to the add port screen and click close.
step 15 click the box next to the port you just setup and click apply.
step 16 enjoy your new printer.

The vista machine is similar but I do not have one available to correctly give a step by step list for you.

The other option is to call member of the church and see who might have enough computer knowledge to do this free of charge. If no one is then call a tech to do this.

Question

Thanks for the tip with Vista. Am I to understand that I cannot load the drivers onto the printer server? Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the latest software for the GL-1140 controller?

Thanks,

If you have a print server you can install the printer there but I misunderstood that you meant the print controller was the print server. As to the firmware you will need someone local with access to the Toshiba tech website. For this you will have to call a tech.
