Toshiba e-studio 603 smtp questions

We have the 603 and I was able to get the scanning to network share working fine but I can't get the scan to email to work. I get ST123B Failed to connect to SMTP Server message. I am currently trying to track down the manual to look for error codes.

I am using TopAccess to configure. I see under network there is a SMTP client and SMTP server. Do I need to enable the server part?

Under the Setup, EMAIL - I have a generic catch-all address we use for the 'from'

Under SMTP client I am using the IP address of our exchange server, POP disabled. Authentication is set to auto (my exhange admin set something up not to need it, but I tried both ways, no go)

I have tried SMTP Server enabled and disabled, still no go.

Any advice on how to troubleshoot this?

It's impossible to say without seeing your server setup but a couple things to consider:

Does your server use the standard port 25, maybe 587 for secure mail?
Does your server allow relay without login? Do you need to POP before?

BTW you can "see" what the error code means in the "Logs" section of TopAccess.

I am going to have my exchange admin assist me, these are good questions for me to ask, thanks!

There is a SMTP Client section and a SMTP Server Section under admin setup. I can either enable or disable the SMTp Server and I don't know what this means, for example, does this thing function as some sort of email server as well? I would prefer to use Exchange if I can, so would i set this to disabled and onl use the SMTP Client settings?

My error doesn't seem to be any more informative other than failed to connect to SMTP, I found my manual with the codes.

I am not sure what this means, we are a school with our own domain and exchange server. Do you mean try to use the settings of my personal email and relay the mail through that?

Thanks!

your internet service provider has a SMTP
you pay for that
why don't you use it?

Use the SMTP client section. I think the server section is for having the machine function as a gateway for internet faxes... I never use it. I've never had to fool with iFaxing.... good as far as i'm concerned!

You should be able to get it to work with your exchange server which probably offers your the most control over the machine. You could just as easily use any SMTP server to which you had the needed information.

Thanks for the info.
Here is what my SMTP client looks like, changes were made to protect my info where applicable...

Enable SMTP Client Enable
Enable SSL Disable
SSL/TLS
SMTP Server Address x.x.x.x
POP Before SMTP Disable
Authentication Login <- lots of choices
Login Name valid email address
Password xxxxx
Maximum Email / InternetFax Size 30 MB
Port Number 25

For login name, I don't know if I need an email address or like an admin account for the Exchange server there for that choice. But I will keep playing around!

Thanks again
