Tosh e282/GD1150 fax will send but not receive

e-282 with a Fax Modem GD1150 will send a fax ok, but when trying to send to it, it will not even answer. No LED, nothing! I tried a GD1150 from an e-280, same thing.
Current firmware is F562-A09 the latest available is F562-A16. I've been told I need to upgrade the firmware and that should do it.
I do have access to the FYI low end up to 28, trying to study how to do this. The instruction show I need the Download Jig & upgrade ROM.
I have JIGs for the e-35 series which I never used & I will verify if one of the JIGs is the same, but I know for sure I don't have the ROM. It appears I can download the firmware from the FYI site (but not certain).
Bottom line, Is it possible to upgrade the fax firmware via USB or network?
Thanks in advance
Claudio

Just as a really silly question, but have you tried unplugging the fax line from the machine and then tried ringing the fax number to if anything else picks up the line?

I have been caught out on this twice now.

Thanks for your quick reply TheOwl:
Excellent point! I checked the connections, firmware versions, exchanged modem, etc., I did use my cell to call the fax # and it would only ring, I also called my cell from the fax to verify I was dialing the correct fax # (called ID), but calling it without the phone line plugged simply did'nt cross my mind.
I will give it a try tomorrow when I go back.
Meanwhile, since I probably still need to upgrade the firmware, I would also still like to know if anyone knows if the fax firmware can be upgraded via the USB or network?

The firmware can only be updated via the update jig. You can either download and burn a chip or just order the chip.

Also check and make sure the fax is set for the correct country code and that the plug is wired correctly. I have seen this on more than one occasion.

One fly has crossed my empty head...

As I remember there is a secure receive function. So Fax option will accept calls only from numbers that are exists in address book.

Also check pulse/tone dialing.

Also check right procedure for fax option installation there are some memory clear etc... procedures.

Also check regional setting but not only the soft code but the short green cable on the fax board.

If you go upgrade fax firmware to latest one I am suggesting upgrade of copy machine firmware, too. For fax you need small one jig and M27C4001-10F chip (on the market no more than $10-15). From Toshiba $$$.

I want to thank you all for your replys.
I got ahold of the ROM to upgrade the modem firmware. Did that still the same symptom.
I also hired out to upgrade the copiers firmwares. After that it has the same symptom. I finally ended up exchanging the machine to make the customer happy. Placed an e-352 & fax sends & receives fine so I know that the customer's DSL or phone line is not be the problem.
I also noticed when I ring the fax #, if trying to press the monitor to listen for dial tone it will display "Not Possible" so it knows there is an incoming call, but does not answer it.
Someone mentioned to me that possibly the incoming call possibly is being rerouted elsewhere instead of receiving the fax.
Does anybody have any other ideas?
* also tried */1-100, 102, 103, 08-1428 ( still no change )

The best test would be when you get the machine back to your workshop. Hook the machine up there and see if you still get the same issue.

If you do, then I would suggest a problem with the fax board, but if you don't, then maybe something on your clients line that the machine didn't like for some reason.

Go to TopAccess and see if fax are routed to network folder instead of printed it out.

or

Check 08-660 1 is for forwarding.

Probably a stupid thing, but I have seen people plug the line into the TEL plug rather then the Line plug and it will cause this issue as well.
