    Mr. Spock,
I have no idea what either fat method is. I can get a thumb drive, how
big should it be? I've been meaning to get a couple of those to back up
my manuals with anyway. Can I get the firmware from the tosihba site?
Or will they deal with an independant?

    Thanks for your help

    DR

When you insert the thumbdrive into a computer and right click there is the option of formatting it. In the format pop up is the file system drop down. From here choose fat or fat16 not fat32 or ntfs. Fat limits you to 2 gig size and is used by the Toshibas for updating the firmware. You need to have at least a 256mg thumbdrive. The 1gig will not work on all the Toshiba's only the newer ones. Toshiba will let anyone in to the site once you register and pay an annual fee. You will need to contact them for further details.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

    Mr. Spock,
In your last post you mention a 256mg drive, should that be 256mb?
Is toshibausa.com the web address? I will check it out to find out what
the annual fee is, hopefully I can afford to do that.

    Thanks for all your help

    Mr. Spock,
I have visited 3 different toshiba sites and I think the right one is toshiba.com. I am not sure of what I am looking for. Should I get
the thumb drive first or can I put this on a disc then transfer to the drive.
It seemed like the web site just took me to dead ends or laptop pages.
I would be greatful for any help.

    Thanks

    DR

That site only has the drivers on it. The main tech site in the USA is FYI.TOSHIBA.Com But you need a login and password to enter into it. I do not know how to contact Tosh to find the fee or other info. My Boss handles that stuff....

That was suppose to be 256mb drive. You will download the file. Unzip it. and read the pdf that has the instructions on how and where everything goes to do the flashing. Depending on what version is on it you may need to do an update between the current and the final version.

So far, the smallest drive I can find is the 2gig. Will this work?

You can try 2GB, 2GB can be formatted FAT which is the key (can not use FAT32.)

by the way these machines have a pm support mode.... hold down 9 start and turn on power.

enter 103 ---press start --prints pm list
enter 106 --- press start --prints error codes including jams

other things i had on these machines with jamming.....

missing guides on paper feed side. when attaching the paper desk careles techs damaged them and threw them away.

missing sensor on side door ... machine would work but couldnt clear jam without cycling power ... same reason as above (damn idiot tech)

faulty high-low clutches in copier -----(may result in intermittant Z-fold while copying)
    I fix copiers ...Well Sorta

Thanks Firestarter, The sensor on the side of the door is not missing and
the machine is not getting "z" fold jams. It did how ever seem to change
the paper setting in the lower of two trays from Ltr to Ltr-R. Once the
customer change the paper to Ltr-R it runs fine.
I will see if it will print out the error and jam log. But their is nothing in
there to print under 253. High low clutches, are those like registration
    clutches?
I have not located a 256mb thumb drive to reload the firmware. Anyone
have a good source for this item?

    Thanks

    DR
