Estudio 230 intermittant jams/no codes


I am not to familar with this model and I am looking for some direction.
This unit will jam off and on through out the day. Naturally when I get
there it will run. I don't believe I have seen it actually jam when I am in
front of it. The paper stops in the fuser with only minimal bending or
damage to the lead edge of the copy.
The confusing part for me is why it does not log a code for this or any
other jam. No codes in the log at all. Only one sheet in the paper path.
I induced a jam by blocking the exit. No code. Tried leaving the paper
in and cycled the power. It sees the paper, but no code. Cycle the
power after clearing and it works. Very annoying.
I do not know what version of firmware is in the machine.
The power has to be cycled to clear the jam display. Every once in awhile
it give a power failure messege on the display, but still works. It is
connected to the customers network for printing. I am told it jams
even if copying. Won't do it for me though, very shy.

Does this sound familar to anyone?

I think on the 230 model you still had to hold down C+8 when the jam had occurred to display the code (newer ones do it automatically.) You can go into 08+powerup mode and code 253 will display the last 20ish errors. If there really is no code you might look at top access (web interface), there are several logs there. The message log will show you every door that was opened etc, it can be pretty handy.

These are some pretty common jams:
-fuser claws out of socket E01/02
-bridge(finisher transport) sensors E910/920
-2nd transport sensor (in black guide plate below trans/sep with white pinch rollers)
-1st transport sensor 2 screws under bypass take off a plate, sensor in middle

By the way, the power failure means one of two things. Most likely the machine was turned off when in jammed state, or it actually had a power failure. Proper shutdown is done via User Functions > User > Shutdown. Just hit FC twice to cleaar PF msg. 08-900 gives you FW version.

Thanks Toshiba Tech,
I forgot about the C-8 to view a code. But there are no codes under
the 08-253 program.
I am not familar with the top access (web interface) and do not have a
clue as to what is involved with doing that.
I made some notes from your post and will check this out.
I did file the tip of one sensor down as it was getting stuck if pushed to
far. That is the sensor you see when the side is open. It is down in
the crack. I thought that was transport sensor 1? Maybe I mis read the
book.
I asked a friend and they said they stopped working on that model as it
was problem-matic.

I wouldn't call them problematic. Not anymore than any other machine IMO. 08-253 should list the error codes along with the date/time/meter/othernumbers unless something is wrong with the machine most all toshibas do that. You can also print out 107 or 106 in 9start mode. The "other numbers" can be deciphered using the svc handbook to tell you exactly what kind of job the machine was running when the code occurred. What size paper, what drawer, what finishing options, what magnification...

To get to "top access" just get on one of their computers, open their internet browser and type in the IP address of the copier in the address bar, no "www" or "http" neccessary. It is pretty straight forward to use after that.

If 08-253 is showing nothing then you have an electrical problem/system board/nvram issue. Otherwise it should register something. That will also cause the power failure indicator to come. There was a bulletin about one of the 5vdc legs being low and needing to adjust the power supply to make it 5.1vdc.

As to reliability I have 20 or so that run pm to pm with only one call in between.

This is maybe a firmware mistake.
try to reflash the firmware and it works fine.i had this problem on a 350 there was no way to ajust the papertiming from the papertrays and it was not accept anything from 05 08 so reflash another firmware and it works still fine.

Harry,
I also had the same thought. I have never flahed any machines firmware
and am at a loss. I do not have the firmware needed to do that.
I have a lap top and I can get a cable. Hopefully it is just a standard
cable.
Last week I made the machine feed from the lower tray as the default
for the network printing. I put LTR in the lower and LTR-R in the upper.
So far the customer has reported no jams. And I have called a couple of
times to check.
Mr. Spock,
If the voltage is low from that supply that would account for the illogical
behavior. If you could email that tech letter I am sure to find it usefull.

That is a good idea. I will ask the customer to check this out.

is four "0"s then a blank space next it shows the 064 064 7
The very last entry is the same except it shows 064 064 8.

The fireware installed is T371SY0U4006.
I am having trouble finding the error code decoder page in the handbook.

The legend to decoding the error codes is right after the error code section and right before the self-diagnosis section. It's a little table near the top of the page.

the firmware is the latest (v 4006) and to do the update requires the files and a thumb drive formatted in the old fat method Not fat32.

If the first 4 digits in 08-253 are 0000 then it is an electrical issue. As I stated earlier that is the pwb, nvram, or power supply. I will try to find the tech bulletin on the 5vdc issue but It may have been something that was done over the phone with tech support and not a published bulletin. And as the previous posted stated go to the last page of error codes and it will be just before the Diagnostic menus.
