the fix

Heater abnormality after abnormality judgment (pre-running
end temperature abnormality)

[C443/C445/C446/C447/C449] Heater abnormality after abnormality judgment
1,2.3. Check the thermistors, Heater and LGC board
Check the above components following the procedures 1, 2 and 3 for [C411/C412].
4. Clear the status counter
Change the current status counter value (08-400) "3", "5" , "6" , "9" , "19" , "21" , "22" , "23" , "24" , "25"
, "27" or "29" to "0" for [C44X], taking the same procedure as that for [C41X].
• The status counter value is as follows in the following cases.
- The error occurred during warming-up: "3", "5" or "6"
- The error occurred after the equipment has become ready: "7"
- The temperature detected by the center thermistor is 240°C or higher, the temperature
detected by the side thermistor is 250°C or higher or the temperature detected by the edge
thermistor is 270°C or higher: "9", "19", "21", "22", "23", "25", "27" or "29".
- The error occurred during printing: "24" or "25"
- The error occurred during energy saving: "26" or "27"
- A paper jam occurred: "28" or "29"

That was what the service handbook says for your code.

While the machine is off, you will want to open the fuser unit and clean the thermistors of any toner/dust buildup. Close all covers back. Hold down the 0 and the 8 keys then power the machine on. when the screen comes up, type in 400 then start. press 0 and enter or start to reset code. to make sure it is reset, press clear all to clear everything. type in 400 and start again. If it says 0, you did it correctly. turn machine off then back on. It should come to ready. If it gives you the code again, thermistors or a thermostat will need to be replaced.

There is also a commen problem with the fuser/adu connectors getting damaged and causing this code. If you pull the ADU/Fuser section out, you wil see 2 interface connectors. These connectors slide into female ports on the rear of the mainframe. Over time and due to slamming, the rear portion breaks resulting in poor connections. I always inspect these connection very closley. They can be inspected with a flashlight, but to be 100% certain, pull them from the rear mounting brackets and get them in the light of day. You can see paper dust jammed in there and small stress fractures much easier. EMujo
