I am a new toshiba dealer , so I don't know if its normal
but when the 6530c sits at idle you here a ticking noise at random
we have two machines doing the same.
question - when the machine sits at idle do you here a ticking noise from the
fuser ?

The only noise I've heard is from a fan. I've never heard it from the fuser.
there is a modificaton kit for the ticking sound. it includes new gears, bushings and spacer. takes about 20 minutes to install
p/n 6GAPBFUSMOD
Even though the serial number might fall within "modified" from factory machines. I have seen some with the bracket but old bushings and no spacer. I think the spacer makes the most sense. You can use a lower pressure roller bearing (from a 450 ect...)as a spacer between frame and bracket if you don't want to waste a whole kit.
one more thing. make sure you set the machine to go into power save and you shut the machine down properly. these fusers must "cam out" to save the stress on the fuser. otherwise you are replacing fuser belts every 100K and replacing gears too much.
There is actually a new mod specifically for the ticking noise from the fuser. It is buried in the bulletin 144.
Bulletin 138 dealt with gear failure and rather obnoxious noise from a broken frame on the fuser drive assy. I've experienced this failure and it's not pretty.
The ticking is harmless but annoying. I am getting ready to install those pieces on a machine next week that was just delivered to a customer. Oddly, she found the sound bothersome.
