    eStudio 850 Smudge

We have an eStudio 850 at a client that is making poor copy/print quality. Longer it runs, worse it gets. We put in new DV, new drum, drum brush, etc. Was fine for about a week and then went bad again. Any ideas what is the deal with this beast?

    Thank you to all!

Hi, It's like a nightmare on that machine! Do you mind if I ask you if you use genuine parts? If yes try this: Press and hold 0 and 4 while turning on power. Enter the codes 111, 113, and 142. If the output is good then concentrate on the scanner side. If bad, check the primary, transfer and separation chargers. Check the HV potentials. Refer to the service manuals. I hope this helps. Pls share your SM with me if you don't mind. Kindly send it to my email address: mixigould@yahoo.com. Thanks.

Check also the toner hopper assembly. Maybe the toner jumps out and smeared the copies. Some foams maybe melted already.

After replacing dev and other consumables did You:
    1. clean optics, laser slit glass, laser mirrors?
    2. clear respective counters?
    3. make ATS adjustment (05-200) and IQC adj (05-290)?
    4. stop a copy between drum and fuser to see where the problem comes from?

What about transfer belt - did You change it, too?
Can You provide scanned picture of the problem?

In addition to all the above it's helpful to sand/scotchbrite the mag rollers really good. Also if you have the SH/SM then you can look up the codes to turn OFF IQC and SPC and Humidity control. I have had -really- good luck on older machines just turning it off and letting it run. By good luck I mean night and day difference just after turning the codes off, your mileage may vary!
I will not give you service manuals or firmware.

I had one give me really skrewy problems. Turned out to be loose drum shaft, Transfer belt was driving drum so it worked sometimes but most of the time gave a host of CQ problems. There is a tech pub, it is an old one so it is in archives.

    850 smudges

Seems like bias for charge and dv are backwards. Either bad hvt or reversed plugs. Is it possible to reverse plugs?
    Maybe previous tech swapped?

Yes you may have problem with bias voltage or the HV potentials. Maybe inconsistent output! And maybe the tranfer connector was swapped with the separation connector. Refer to the SM.
