The machine will not boot if the boards have different levels of firmware. I can only suggest trying a logic board, from all the information I have been told.
It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.

Quite often with firmware updates they start from scratch. Install the firmware and the copier should reboot and the display should appear.

Another thing to consider is reinstalling the old firmware and install then updates in the proper order. Good luck.
