e456 System Board or SED HDD Problem?

We have a customer with 2x E456 installed this summer and one of the copiers has kind of quit on them. One copier will come up and say “ready” but remains unresponsive. As soon as you try to select any functions or print a counter reading or press the number of copies, or touch the touch panel anywhere the copy function light will blink and just won’t do anything. You can’t even enter the number of copies (ex. If you wanted 27 copies the screen will show 2 and then change to 7 and not 27 together). In 08 mode the panel and the keypad seem to work fine.

Things we have tried already are which include swapping parts over from the working copier are

    1) Update firmware to latest version
    2) Format HDD reload firmware
    3) Switch the DDR ram on system board
    4) Swap entire control panel
    5) Swap logic board
    6) Perform Key Backup Restore in [3] + [C] Mode
    7) Perform HDD checks in [5] + [C] Mode

    8) We did swap over system board but started to run into errors when booting since there is a lengthy procedure when changing system boards on these newer copiers. After each procedure, the copier's behaviour didn’t change

We didn’t change too many things on the system board from the good copier so we stopped there. We didn’t swap over HDD either since every time you change one of these items you need to reinstall data and encryption keys, etc. and we don’t want to change or fool up the system board or HDD from the good copier and have 2 copiers down.

So I think we have narrowed it down to maybe a system board or HDD but these are different copiers EBX series and this HDD does have the wipe technology on it. We haven’t run into any trouble with these so far so if you have any thoughts or ideas please let us know.

Although, we initially requested of the customer, they declined to purchase a Surge Suppressor originally.

    Thanks,

In the end we had to replace the SED HDD. The copier is working fine now. We were not able to transfer the counters to the new HDD and will have to adjust manually. This is the first SED HDD to fail for me.
