Pls take him through how to operate the copier first
The first thing I would do is send him out with one of your other engineers, get him to learn the basics first.
When I first became a field tech, my service manager had me doing nothing but PM's and parts calls on machines for about 6 months. I learned a lot about the machines during that time. A network certification is nice but not absolutely necessary. I did the Toshiba mindbuilder courses and they gave me a great foundation to learn networking and how to fix connectivity problems.
No! we never do that with the copier.
