Well this is a first for me. I found something slightly interesting on a Toshiba e Studio 2007 today. the more I learned, the more it confounded me.
The customer says: "It won't copy off the glass, but the ADF works fine." That's fairly accurate, and unexpected. When you place anything on the glass, and you expect original size detection to select a paper size you get a screen something like this (my apologies if this is not exactly accurate): "A4/A4-R, LT/LT-R, OK." They also do small originals off the glass, and naturally get the same result.
If you select OK the screen resets, and you can start the whole process over again. At the time it made no sense to me at all.
First I tried disabling Auto Paper Selection (APS=0). The other selections weren't any better: Auto Magnification Selection (AMS=1), or Not Selected (2).
Second I tried disabling Original Size Detection, no improvement.
Third, I tried fiddling with the original size detection base settings, again no change.
As a last desperation move I was wading through the User Menu, hoping something would bite me on the nose ... and then it did.
One of the endusers had defaulted the sort function to Rotate-Sort, yet there was no LT paper to draw from. I think that is what that cryptic message is supposed to mean: Not that there is a problem with original size, but that the machine is not equipped with the right print paper sizes to rotate-sort. And the machine display gives no indication what the sort settings are.
Thanks Toshiba, for paring that message down to the point where nobody can tell what it's supposed to mean. If I can make a suggestion ... how about this for an improvement?: "Load paper for rotate-sort A4/A4-R, LT/LT-R, OK." I admit that it's 27 additional characters on a small screen, but maybe they can make it scroll? =^..^=
