    Z-fold accompanied by second page

This one was really interesting. Here is the picture.

    Z-folds eS855SE.JPG

It's an eStudio 855 with nearly 2M prints. Once I got tray #3 LCF to pick up, the first page always Z-folded. The really interesting part was the second page that fed through simultaneously, and caught the remaining image, again every time.

The registration flag was really worn. What I think was happening, was the first page at the reg roller didn't trip the reg switch, and the vertical path rollers shoved the paper as far as it could, making the overlap for the Z-fold. When the next page arrived, the two pages together did trip the switch, and it fed both through together, crimping the Z-fold, and traveling out to the finisher. Only then did it pull a E020 paper jam.

I got pretty good at removing the lower registration assembly. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

We have been seeing the DRUM UNIT cause the Z-folding due to paper snagging on the drum pick-off fingers. A quick fix would be to replace the drum unit or you could play with the LCF feed timing(default is 12). I have had some luck with increasing the timing to 18 or 20 on some machines......There is also a bulletin about this on the TOSHIBA website. Also how old are your LCF feed rolls? According to the PM schedule they're supposed to last 400k but they usually start slipping way before that. GOOD LUCK

Those rollers were fresh from the car. I couldn't get the paper even that far before changing the rollers. If I get 250K from the LCF rollers I'm satisfied. Only occasionally do I see them last longer. =^..^=

Have you been able to solve this one yet?

I didn't have a registration flag with me, but using a similar flag, I lengthened the registration flag ~1.5mm ... close to the original length. The machine then passed 1000 pages without a hitch.

Since then I've seen a eS655SE with the same Z-folds that was fixed by a new registration photointerrupter. These Sharp "73" photointerrupters are failing everywhere on the whole spectrum of machines. Some intermittent, some hard fail. =^..^=

That's good to hear. I will try that method when I see that problem again.

Funny about the photo interrupters I have changed more dead or flakey sensors in the last 6 months than I have changed in the last 27 years fixing copiers . thanks Toshiba......
