Light Streak Black Only Workcentre Pro 40

I have an ancient Xerox WorkCentre Pro 40 that is leaving a light streak along the paper path of black only. CMY are good. I've replaced several components including black drum and tried to clean what I can find but I'm stuck. I don't think its a transfer belt since it only affects black. After several searches I can't seem to find directions on what to look for and/or what to clean for this issue. Does anyone have some suggestions for inspection/cleaning/fixing this issue on any of these copiers which appear to use the same engine?

    •Xerox CopyCentre C32
    •Xerox CopyCentre C40
    •Xerox DocuColor 1632
    •Xerox DocuColor 2240
    •Xerox DocuColor 3535
    •Xerox Workcentre M24
    •Xerox Workcentre Pro 32
    •Xerox Workcentre Pro 40

    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the info. Can you please tell me where to look for that assembly to inspect it? I've replaced the drum cartridge, toner and 2nd BTR Cleaner already. But I don't have a service manual to locate that unit.

    Thanks!

It is under the black drum module but a lot of things to disassembly.

I haven't worked on one of these, just the 73xx and on but I imagine they are not too different (I have worked on one 3535). Not sure if the Pro 40 has a laser unit or LED array. With a laser unit, you may have dusting on the laser window causing light streaks. With the LED array set up you may have some bad segments or just poor connection. I had a 74xx where I just swapped LED array from one color to another and the problem went away.

You may also have chunks of clumped toner stuck in your developer housing. There is a metering blade that limits the amount of toner/ developer on the magnetic roller. If a chunk gets stuck between the blade and the roller, you'll get strips around the roller with less toner / developer causing light streaks. You can try using something very flat to swipe between the 2 to get it free but it may come back. You may need to take the housing apart, clean it well and install fresh developer.

A more rare thing would be a possible problem with your 1st BTR roller located inside the transfer belt assembly (1 for each color KCMY).

Fixed it. Turns out I needed to run the cleaning wand over the laser/led window below the drum cartridge. There was a lot toner in there and that cleaned up the prints. Thank you for all of your help, it pointed me in the right direction.
