    WC 4260 defeatured

I have a strange problem. When the 4260 powers on it has a message that the hard disk driver has detected a fault. This unit has never had a hard drive as far as my client knows. When I choose to ignore the error it runs in a "defeatured" mode and then ignores that there is a DADF installed so we cannot use the document feeder. The config report says that the DADF is not installed. It also reports that a HDD is not installed, which is correct, but then why is it giving the HDD error?

It seems like a logic board failure. Is there a way to perform a factory reset on this unit?

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry, but I think there is a HDD installed, since there has been on all the 4260s this client has.

    I had something similar.

    Disconnect the hard drive completely.

Let machine boot up (it will with HDD missing)

Install latest firmware with HDD out of machine (30.107.01.00)

    Install new HDD.

Everything came back and machine worked fine.

This is sequence I was given by Xerox tech support and it did work.
