    WC 5865i Firmware upgrade

    Long story short, Xerox Helpline advised me that this machine needs a software update to resolve a particular issue.

    Sure! I've done it plenty times before on previous models.

    So I download the firmware via support.xerox.com, download the manual upgrade, download the Manual upgrade. I copy and paste the 07319007534540 dlm file to USB(fat32) > altboot > FORCED_UPGRADE (no extension).

    I come back... who knows how long I didn't count. But it started saying "Device unavailable". And would reboot, again, and again in 10 minute intervals?

    Called Xerox, Rep says "Oh yeah, sometimes that firmware fails I don't use that one. Use this one, sends me a link to this file:
    Workcentre_5845-5890_system-sw07319004815000

    I repeat the process, and....It's been like this for over an hour. Haven't seen the upgrade form yet.

    Help would be appreciated.

    Getting any activity on the USB key (lights)? I’ve had one USB key refuse to work before so used another. Was the machine working before as this can sometimes be a sign of a HDD that’s failed?

    Try another USB
    If not
    Try to format HDD and altboot with 71.xxx.xxx
    Firmware if all ok upgrade to 72.xx
    Then to 73.xx

    I think that you tried to install wrong firmware.
    You should download install firmware for wc5865i not for wc5865.

    My USB does have an activity light. You can see it there on the picture. The machine was able to copy, but it did not print, for any computer, or any internal configuration reports. Thanks for the comment on the firmware, I was asking myself why Xerox Helpdesk would ask me to use a different firmware. So your comment puts my mind at ease.

    Sounds like SD Card or HDD has gone. It’s the same with that whole connectkey range. I usually order both, do SD Card first and HDD next. Keep what you don’t use in stock.

    To format HDD take it off connect the HDD to pc and format
    When problem with SD you will get a white screen

    UPDATE: So, we took the machine to the office. Boot up time is horrendous.

    So we tried the forced altboot again, not working. Stays in green screen. left it alone for 2 hours. same thing.

    Before I try the PWS forced altboot, I'm going to try and format the HDD with my PC. What file system should I use? Fat32? NTFS? 16?

    Any help, would be awesome.

    Low level format if you can,
    If not, do chkdsk or fsck delete any partition from disk and do altboot again.
    Check the cable & connections from hdd to motherboard.
