    700i Fiery options

    I've got another odd question...

I picked up a 700i machine with the BP2 bustled Fiery. First time I've have a 700-series machine.

I'm not loving the 700i's bustled Fiery, the BP2, which is System 10e.

The original 700's bustled Fiery, the MMX, was System 8e Release 2 as I recall.

For one of the only times in Xerox's history, they allowed you to upgrade from the 700 to the 700i by buying the new Fiery.

As I understand it, there are NO other differences. Even the system firmware is 700/700i. There's only one software set.

Does anyone know if you can use the MMX Fiery with a 700i IOT?

    Thanks much!

    K

As I know there is different hardware for 700i Fiery than 700 Fiery and the new Fiery's system software dont works on old 700 Fiery's hardware.

That's correct, you can only use BP2 software on a BP2 and MMX software on an MMX. Also, the BP2 is MUCH faster than the older MMX, completely different, and newer, hardware.

But that's not what I'm asking about... I'm wondering if I can use an MMX _instead of_ a BP2 on a 700i. I'm not trying to load MMX software on a BP2 Fiery or anything like that.

As best I can tell, a 700 with the latest firmware is 100% identical to a 700i with the latest firmware. They treat them as one unit. So if the 700 can use the MMX, I don't see why a 700i couldn't.

Of course you can use MMX Fiery with new 700i machine but you will obtain old 700 system.
The new features from 700i machine software will works only with new 700i Fiery.

I don't know of any 700i specific machine software features... They're the same.

The Fiery would be older, of course, a System 8eR2 instead of the newer System 10e, so any Fiery System 10e features would be gone. But that is the point. I don't like System 10e.

But in terms of the 700 vs 700i, there are no machine software differences. The 700i didn't bring any new features, just a new Fiery. And the latest IOT software, 3.7.1, is for both the 700 and 700i.

So if the older MMX Fiery will work with the newer 700i, that is the answer I was looking for.

    Thanks!

Thanks. Saw those. The first bulletin describes new features, but those aren't 700/i (print engine) features, they are Fiery System 10 features. That is is the whole point of my question, I don't like System 10, I want to use System 8eR2.

    BP2 (700i controller) is System 10, MMX (700 controller) is System 8e R2

Obviously if I switch to a MMX I am going to lose the System 10 features. But like I said, that is my goal.

The 700 and 700i _print engine_ features are the same. (The second bulletin.) There is one caveat, though. The 700 can't COPY 221-300gsm duplex. Only print. The 700i can COPY and PRINT 221-300gsm duplex.

(I never copy... I only print. So not a problem.)

    Thanks for the help.

    Re: 700i Fiery options

One reason I'm kind of hating on the System 10e BP2 controller on the 700i is that it doesn't play nice with my ES-1000 spectrophotometer for calibration.

I have many System 8eR2 devices (DocuColor 250, 252, WC7775) in my Command Workstation, and they all work together just fine. But if I calibrate the 700i, I can't then calibrate any of the other machines without quitting Command Workstation and restarting it. Calibrating the 700i works fine, but after I finish, it is almost like it "locks up" the ES-1000 and I can't then calibrate anything else after that without quitting and restarting.

And because I have a lot of printers in my Command Workstation, restarting takes a long time as it connects to each one... haha

I like the BP2's speed, it is MUCH faster than the AXA (250) ERB (252) and UAF (7700) but I don't like the System 10 that it runs.
