    Xerox VersaLink C405 (Scanner Fail + Toners Not recognized) after firmware upgrade

    Hi,

    I have two Xerox VersaLink C405 which after automatic firmware update that completly goes dead. They are C405 DNM and now toners provided are Sold version.

    The code shown is 124-372 and 093-916 (check toner)

    The copier not recognised any toners replaced and it gives scanner error.

    Everything working fine before the printers was updated.

    We tried an roll-back emergency procedure, which is failed.

    We search for any Eureka, no trace at all of this situation.

    We have now 3 printers updated which has the same issue.

    Anyone get this issue and resolved it?

    I don't have an answer but my question is this a new firmware release? Your post is valuable information and best everyone stay away from it

    Yes ! As soon as the new firmware was installed, the printer not recognized original toners was already installed.

    The firmware update on these machines should only be DONE if you are presented with an issue(s) that is specific to your issue. Example if you have an issue with the machine dropping off the network every day and the new Firmware release is directly related to your issue, then download away. If not DO NOT install. There is white papers with every software release addressing issues.
    Best bet for this is to initialize the machine back to factory defaults.
    Remove Network Cable, Fax line. Make the machine a standalone
    DO NOT INSTALL FIRMWARE FROM WEB INTERFACE, use the Thumb drive method.
    Turn off Automatic Updates once complete thru Web Interface.
    The Sold toner should now work in the machine without any issues. If not turn machine off and remove all toners, Power on and allow machine to tell you what toners to install. Install the requested color, close up the machine and allow to ask for next color and so on. The toner issue is common. Reason is the machine comes with geographic neutral toners (Starter) and maint plan is determined with either a PIN code or the first toner that is installed after initial starter toner is used up. Once a brand new one is installed it will tell the machine, Hey you are in North America on a Sold Maint Plan.

    If you are on a Xerox metered Plan (Page Pak) you will have to get another PIN to convert service plan from Sold to Metered.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the update. The problem is some of customers has updated the firmware and the machine was originally in supplies with Xerox XPPS service. They are no longer with Xerox and the customer paid for their toner and the machine was sold has an DNM configuration from the dealer, not from Xerox.

    The distributor told their is no problem for the customer. They can purchase SOLD or METERED supplies, the machine will accept it.

    had a"bad toner" code on a c405 last week (cant remember exact code ) turned out to be the 4 brass contacts that connect the toner eprom with the machine had broken off,all 4 of them, on the first toner replacement. machine was under warranty so customer called xerox. he said xerox tech had been trying for 4 days to get the machine up and running. i will find out more about what happened and get back.

    Did you have updates yet?

    I do have 2 printers with same issue.
