WorkCentre M118 ethernet speed issue
Hello,
This is my first post in this forum. I will appreciate it you would have a look to the issue I am facing. As a welcoming nod, any suggestions would be welcome!
I have been having this issue ever since I bought my multifunction printer. I have the printer connected to my LAN though a router. There are 2 Windows and 2 OS X machines on the LAN. I am using Xerox-supported drivers when printing from Windows, while I have installed Gutenprint opensource drivers on the OS X laptops. I can successfully print from all computers.
The issue I am facing has to do with ethernet speed: All devices report Full Duplex, 100baseTX ethernet types, M118 set to auto ethernet speed reports 100baseTX as well, I am experiencing VERY SLOW speed when the file is being sent to the printer. Even with 10baseTX, I would expect a speed around 1MB/sec. I am actually getting less than 300KB/sec transfer rates, meaning that some 10MB files I am printing take around 6 to 7 minutes before they get transferred to the printer.
I would like to add that the issue occurs ONLY when printing through ETHERNET. Using a USB cable seems to fix the problem, but using a USB cable unfortunately doesn't suit my office configuration well. I have contacted Greek Xerox support by phone many times and they seem unable to offer me a solution. They seem to focus on image quality and driver options, which is not the problem, since through USB the 10MB files I am referring to is being sent in around 10 seconds. A colleague of mine -to whom I recommended the same workcenter model- is facing the EXCACT SAME PROBLEM under his office configuration, somehow different from my own, although still trying to print through the ethernet port.

change the port in the driver from raw to lpr,Queue Name lp lower case.
this will fasten the speed

Hello,
Thanx for the reply. I tried your suggestion, changing driver data type from RAW to LPR, but I am still getting transfer speed of just 300 to 400KB/sec through me 100base-T ethernet local network. OK, maybe it did help a bit, around 10% speed increase.
However, I don't find it logical. Is it the way laser printers work, or is it just mine? What's the point of having a 100base-T ethernet port build-in into the Xerox, if it works on (almost) serial speed?
Any views will be appreciated on the matter.
