    docucolor 250 fading prints

My docucolors prints are faded along one of the long edges. This can be seen clearly on a magenta and cyan solid print. I have cleaned the ROS glass and replaced the drums. I even interchanged the developers from a workcentre 7665 I have (they use the same parts) but no luck. Any ideas?

I offer to you clean ROS inside: mirrors and glasses. What colors have faded lines?

I have changed the 2BTR, 1BTR and even cleaned the ROS windows. The Ros boxes are sealed and I wonder if there could be any dust inside. I have attached a print showing the fading on one of the long edges. Any ideas?

I have exactly the same problem but with DC12, and it is not related to the IBT belt or 2nd BTR (because the defect is present on the drum) and it happens to a third drum in a row so the last suspect is the ROS unit (or maybe the Erase Lamp) and I am also curious if I can open the ROS and clean the optics inside without causing some damage to it.

This fading can come from few things.
Drum, dev housing, 1st Btr, Ros.
Choose by your self which one is yours.

Thanks for the feedback but like I said before I have changed the 1st BTR, 2BTR, drums, and cleaned the ROS glass. I even changed the developer housing.

So the only thing that you did not change yet is ROS. Try to clean it inside, not just ROS glass. Take it apart and clean all the mirrors really well.
Something else that is possible to be the problem is, so called re-transfer.
    Try the following:

IB/OB colour issues can be a result of either poor development due to developer tank or charge/drum issues. A typical customer problem is that a red background prints red in the middle but the outer edges are more of an orange colour.

    1. Using the PWS Print YMCK 70% and 30% ROS Halftones to verify that single colours print correctly.

    1. Print 70% red and green halftones, if the defect is visible the problem is transfer related.

    1. Print 5 x Magenta, and Cyan 70% ROS halftones

    1. Insert the 5 x Magenta and Cyan ROS halftones back into the tray face down if using trays 1 & 2 or face up if feeding from tray 5.

    1. Now print 10 x Yellow 70% halftones. You should now have 5 x Red and 5x Green 70% ROS halftones. If the halftones do not display IB/OB defects as seen in step 2 then your problem is transfer related and known as “Smile” issue. And caused by retransfer as the already laid toner passes under the next relevant colour drum and toner is pulled from the IBT belt onto the drum but in an uneven manor and is worse on the edges than the middle.

    1. A further test can be done by disconnecting the Cyan and Black 1st BTR bias leads inside the IBT assembly and printing a RED 70% halftone, again the defect should not be visible.

    1. Various factors can cause the defect.

    Try "playing" with these NVM's.

    Normal NVMs’ Default Low Limit
    746-233 (Y) 100 75
    746-234 (M) 100 75
    746-235 (C) 100 75
    746-236 (K) 100 75

    HW1, Coated 1
    746-237 (Y) 50 30
    746-238 (M) 50 30
    746-239 (C) 50 30
    746-240 (K) 50 30

    HW2, Coated 2
    746-241 (Y) 33 20
    746-242 (M) 33 20
    746-243 (C) 33 20

The fading (IB) in my case (DC12) was a dirt spot on one of the lens in the ROS unit. My advice when cleaning is not to wipe all the lens and mirrors around, but carefully to inspect the optics and find the polluted spots and wipe only them with a dry cloth.
