    Hi
Just ordered a new battery for MPC NVM PWB , but i'll get it in 3-4 weeks so I'll try to find replacement but i need some info.

    These are my questions:

    Is this 3V battery?
can I put some other battery type in it's place?

I measured about 1V in upper pins, and 0V in lower pins (picture). I know i need more Volts in upper pins, but Is it OK to have 0V in lower pins? or there should be voltage on both ends? Or this is some kind of double battery?
So my question is there voltage just in upper pins, and I could connect other battery in it's place?

Go on Digikey.com and cross referance the number on the part to their stock. It's more than a battery, it's a battery and an oscillating clock signal.

To be sure that problem was in battery, I recharged it and set up machine. It's working, we'll see for how long.
Milo thanks again for info, digikey is great site.

I am a home user, I got a Xerox Workcentre Pro 32 c when we lost another business here in Santa Ana, it has worked fine for about a year, I have the exact same problem. "Communication Problem Encountered" I can get to the login screen, I can see it is LynxOS, but I do not have the software to reset the machine. Who can I beg, borrow, ... humm I don't steal, a copy of the PWS diag program so I can see if a reset will take care of my communication issues. THanks. George Collins

Re: Workcentre pro 40C - WCP 40C - communication problem encountered

first you need to change the battery
    that is the nvm board
the reason why you have this proble is because the battery on the nvm board died and all the values have been erased
after you replace the board then you can reinitialize the copier and sometimes you have to reload software
if you are not a tarined tech then its not something you can do

Battery shows 2.775 volts. I am a trained tech. in several fields, starting with Data General back in the 80's, just not on Xerox. I can get to the login request in LynxOS but I do not know the login or password for LynxOS. I have about 30 years Unix experience so once in I believe it would be pretty easy to clean the file systems, look at the err logs and see exactly where the failure is happening. I am open for suggestions, I have read about the software PWS but it seems hard to get. Do you know if there is a standard password for the LynxOS? I would love to clean the old files off. I have removed the boards and tried to boot in to copier mode, still gets the same communication error, I need to know how to "Trouble shoot as a digital copier".

Can you tell me where to start that process?

thanks, always seems to be lumps in the oatmeal and they are not always raisons.

    George

Re: Workcentre pro 40C - WCP 40C - communication problem encountered

all xerox copiers run on lynx software
    thats not your problem
if you had paid attention to my post you would have seen that I had written that your problem is that the nvm values have been corrupted
if you log on to with pws you will see that the copier is in manufacturing mode and not in the normal mode
this is a very common problem
and more than likely the battery needs to be replaced
even if the battery is good the machine still needs to be reinitialized
sometimes this problem is easy to resolve and somethimes it requires software reload also
