i have had that problem many times.the patch (silver) on the IBT belt is scratched or damaged. most of the time replacing the IBT assy is the only way to resolve the problem. try cleaning the patch and the sensor and if it doesnt work then the belt will have to be changed good luck
i tried the tape and most of the time it did not solve the problem.ifthe patch is damaged the belt has a lot of copies on it. also the drive rolls are worn or dirty. instead of going back two or three times i replaced the belt or the entire assy. xerox has lowered the price on the assy recently to about 300 dollars. changing the assy will fix the problem
