Now it gets weirder, we discovered that if we print some 10 sheets of each of CMYK solids then the lines disappear for some time.

We first noticed when we were printing several thousand A5s with very little toner coverage that after a while the prints started getting mottled, so we did the solid CMYK thing to try to force some toner through, the mottling disappeared as well as the lines.

There obviously still is a problem even if we've found a workaround, could it be tired developer material?

Do a good cleaning of the machine in particular the electrical contacts to de developer an IBT assy
Then run the MAXSETUP from service.

If by that you mean the motors driving the dev units then we did try to change those but without any improvement.

    Hi
What about laser unit? It looks like defect is in all 4 colors, so it must be some common part which is defective. Laser unit, IBT belt unit, Fuser unit OR drive to these units.
    All the best.

Thanks for all your suggestions, my tech is coming in today so we'll work on these things.

As for it being cheaper to just get a new machine, there is some merit to that especially considering the price of these machines today, however, being in Uganda means I can't just go to my nearest dealer and pick one up but would need to source one in Europe or the US, have it air freighted in, pay the customs and by the time I've done all that it's not a $1000 machine any more :-)
