First, let's clear up a few of your misconceptions. The model of your scanner is a 7356, not the controller. The controller is mounted to the rear of the printer, or is a stand alone PC type devise.
The clock indicator on the scanner control panel generally indicates the scanner and controller are not communicating properly. If the illumination lamp is not on, then one of two problems exist. Either the scanner is not powered on, there is a problem in the scanner, or the lamp is burnt out.
There is often a ground fault unit in the power plug of the scanner. Make sure the black button is pressed in. With the scanner power switch turned on, open the top of the scanner, remove the document hold down plate, and look down into the scanner glass. Along the inside vertical surface there should be several LED's illuminated. If these are not on, you either do not have AC power available to the scanner, or an electrical problem with the scanner.
