Hi I have a 8825 dds with a 7346 scanner. I have just set up the system after a move, it was working before move. printer works fine and scanner initilizes fine. All on board scanner diagnostics pass and I can print a test page from scanner to printer. When I insert an original it takes it in past the middle of the glass and stops and displays "not ready remove document". I have done the registration adjustment many times and it passes most of the time. But I can't get the scanner to take the document. I have also done the lamp calibration many times. In the service manual it states that the original leading edge should be taken in and stop half way on the glass, but it alway goes much farther. Any advice would be great . I believe that the problem is similar to this post. http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/xe...t-scanner.html .Thanks.

Re: 7346 scanner not ready
The Not Ready Message can be caused by several sources. It is interesting that the problem started after a move though. Maybe coincidence, not odd none the less...
5 VDC Adjustment: The voltage is adjustable, and if set at less than 5 V may create havoc with the scanner. You will want to remove both side end panels. There is a connector with a few black and red wires which interconnects the LVPS and main board. Re-seat this board. Then check the voltage between the red and black wires on the connector of the main board. If the voltage is below 5.1 VDC, adjust R53 on the LVPS until it reaches this level.
Document hold down plate: Make sure the plate is reasonably white. You can test to see if the hold down plate is the cause by placing two strips of paper 1 1/2" wide to cover the entire glass. Reboot the scanner, then the printer. If the problem is resolved, repaint the surface of the document hold down plate with flat white paint intended for plastics.
Scanner Drive Assembly: The motor in these scanners fails on a regular basis. There are also regular failures of the motion detector or damage to the encoder disk which are all part of the drive assembly. Try using the toggle switch on the top of the scanner. Press the switch forward or reverse. If the motor stops before releasing the switch, then you most likely have a problem with one of the three parts mentioned here. Try rotating the motor shaft by hand, if the motor seems tight, you may need a motor. Inspect the encoder disk for wear to the black lines. Otherwise, if you have done all of the above, then you will need to replace one or more of the drive components.

Thanks for the quick reply Carl. Reseated the connectors, the voltage was steady at 5.01 adjusted to 5.1. No difference in operation. wheel appears fine. Motor feels free moving and operates as expected, no hesitations or cutouts. Have done the blank paper reset many times. Also have resurfaced the the hold down plate. I'm leaning towards motion sensor. If I insert an original and as it is going in I manually trip the exit sensor the original will be reversed and copying started but then jam code 50000008. If I just insert an original it will travel to just in front of exit sensor and stop and display "not ready remove document". In the registration procedure the manual states the original should travel to the middle of the glass and stop. It does not. Is it the motion sensor that determines this? Is there a test for it. It does pass the registration adjustment but not all the time. Thanks.Comment

Re: 7346 scanner not ready
I can't tell you where the paper usually stops. However, I agree with adriansto that the encoder seems the culprit on this one.Comment

Re: 7346 scanner not ready
Thanks for the bulletins. It looks like i'm not getting any signal out from the stall sensor. There is voltage and ground at the sensor and the cable tests good. As per TBS98058 When forward is pressed the motors runs for a bit then stops on its own. When reverse is pressed and held the motor will run for a bit then stop on its own. The position of the tach wheel looked fine. But I cleaned it and the sensor with no difference in operation. Also tried repositioning the sensor no difference. With the sensor connector removed or attached the motor travels the same and stops. Is it just the sensor that needs replacing or could there be more involved. Thanks.Comment

Re: 7346 scanner not ready
Hi again I replaced the stall sensor and the scanner works like a charm. Thanks for all of your help.Comment
