Xerox 8830 w/Scanner & Axcess- Scanner not completely booting

I've got a Xerox 8830 w/Scanner & Axcess controller. What's happening is that the scanner seems to be hanging in its start-up process.

The scanner gets through its initial boot-up processes, splash screens, and then displays "ok", but none of the buttons or menus on it are active. It will engage to catch a piece of paper in the feeder, but nothing else. The lamps turn on.

The Axcess is booted and looks ok, but also sending digital files to it are not accepted either.

Re: Xerox 8830 w/Scanner & Axcess- Scanner not completely booting

    There are several possible causes:

    Controller not fully booted:
Depending upon model of controller, there is an LED display on the main board of the controller. Usually, this model printer has the controller mounted to the rear of the machine. Open the panel and observe the red led display as the controller boots up. If the display ultimately begins sequencing, then the controller is fully booted. If it locks up in a static state with certain segments lit and others off, then there is a problem with the controller.

Scanner not powered up or properly connected:
The display atop the scanner is powered by the controller independent of the scanner. Depending upon what model scanner you have determines how to troubleshoot. With a 7346/7356 you should see the document lamp lit within the document feed area. IF this lamp is not lit, there could be a number of different causes, from the GFI breaker being tripped, to a whole host of other causes. With a Synergix scanner, the LED display on the rear of the scanner should have reached the letter "P" before booting up the controller / printer.

All of the above will require a service manual and technical understanding of the system in order to properly troubleshoot. We can supply any part you may need, but determining which part is needed, if any, will require a certain level of technical expertise. If you want a reference to a local Xerox service company, we can help with that as well. cbyrne@goevergreen.net
