So when am loading the software, the controller should not be connected to the printer? Should I power it independently or through the back to back power cables from the printer? what about the firewire and usb connection?

WARNING!!! Don't swap HDD on different controllers.. Its like corrupting its software.
In this particular case you must think like a PC tech.
You have a PC computer with a nonbooting motherboard and must find the failed device.

Don't ever swap controllers. The chances of you corrupting the hard drive are high and the software levels need to match

Having the same problem but also getting a message unable to communicate with the remote xerox smart esolutions server !
I check the cables, reseated the memory the fan is operating. The machine takes forever to get to the ready screen and when it does and a copy is made it just says waiting to print! Why does xerox call it a firewire, when it's a usb, and could this problem be the usb cable between the machine and the fiery?

you should have both a firewire and a usb cable connected. the usb cable comes from the screen, and need to go in a specific slot of the 4 usb connections on the controller. The firewire cable is used between the controller and the printer.
The solution to most errors of this kind is reinstalling the software, like stated here a couple of times. 9/10 its software 1/10 is cables

    Hello 7600 series technicians,

I have a pws but I do not have the system software. I have a 7655 and a 7675 that have had the hdd wiped and probably replaced with hdd from different machines. I need to reinstall the software.
Can anyone please help me with the system software?

    Thank you,
    Charles
