    Re: xerox 5875 phantom jam

I've seen this. The machine won't clear a jam condition in sections 3 & 4, yet if you enter service mode and test all the jam sensors in component control, they are all working properly. If you power off / on, the jam condition clears. This is a software glitch. What level of system software are you running? I suggest you upgrade your system software to connect key 1.5 (software level starts with 072...)
    You can download it here:

    WorkCentre 5865/5875/5890 File Download

If you have access to the latest spar software 072...ending in..14800, i suggest using that as it has a lot of bug fixes not included in gen release version 1.5

    Re: xerox 5875 phantom jam

In addition to the above symptom, software also fixes a condition where the machine does not recognize a jam condition when paper jams leaving the main body of the copier and entering the finisher. I've seen this condition on many 58xx machines with various finishers. The machine will not print / copy. Jobs in the active list show "processing" but nothing happens. If you power off / on in this condition, the machine will indicate "warming up", yet no power is going to the fuser to warm the machine up. It will stay in a "warming up" condition forever with an ice cold fuser. (no error codes either). At that point if you were to move the finisher away from the copier and remove the jam, the machine does warm up and starts working normally.

As an added note: Before you upgrade the software, print out a config sheet so you can see all the software levels currently loaded.

Be sure to check the document feeder software level after the software upgrade to make sure it has upgraded properly. I've heard reports that occasionally the document feeder software does not upgrade as it should and that causes problems down the road. If that is the case, try doing the upgrade again and it should take on the second try.

Change fuser module and watch if error will go.
Fuser exit switch can be the cause.

Hit machine status and look for Fault History. What jam code / Faults are listed? If you have powered off / on and you still have a jam condition, one of the jam sensors must be seeing something. Have you pulled the fusing unit all the way out and opened the gate where paper exits? The exit gate on the 5875 fuser is spring loaded so just pull it down to open. paper likes to get jammed up in a tight wad there. Also, separate the finisher from the main body of the copier if you have one installed, look at the exit roller where the paper exits the main body of the copier. The upper roller is sponge. There is a cut out in the sponge roller for the exit jam sensor to fit through. The sensor has a black plastic spring loaded actuator that the paper hits as it passes through. Check to see if this actuator has been knocked out of place. You should be able to push it and it will pop back in place. If it is not sticking straight up its probably been dislodged and need to be popped back in place.
