The gov't of Nova Scotia announced today that 75% of residents had rec'd at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. One new case of COVID was reported today in a population of 1M people.
As far as mixing doses, life is a risk. Driving your car is a risk. Medical science tells me that I am far safer to get a 2nd shot of Moderna than not to.Comment

The first dose of AstraZeneca came from Europe. The Moderna dose probably came from the USA for which I am thankful. The mRNA vaccine used by Moderna was in part invented by a Canadian scientist.
Canada donates excess doses and money to COVAX which distributes to less privileged countries around the world.
Carrying on like an ugly American is not a good look.Comment

In Maryland, every person who died of Covid-19 in June was unvaccinated.
Last month, 130 people died of Covid-19 in Maryland. None of them were vaccinated, according to Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan.
In addition, unvaccinated people made up 95% of new Covid-19 cases in the state and 93% of new Covid-19 hospitalizations, Hogan said at a news conference Wednesday.
The connection between vaccination status and Covid-19 is not specific to Maryland and is not limited to last month, medical experts have said.
Dr. Peter Hotez, dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine, said Maryland's data is a trend that will be seen in states across the country."No question that almost all of the deaths and hospitalizations will be in unvaccinated individuals, and therefore we should expect most of severe illnesses, hospitalizations and deaths will occur predominantly in areas of low vaccination and high Delta," such as in the South and Mountain West, he said.
"So far it's confirming what we saw with Phase 3 clinical trials: That all of the vaccines authorized for emergency use give extra protection against hospitalizations and deaths, so this has been confirmed now in very practical settings over the past year," Hotez added. "It's a reminder that you have every reason to get vaccinated."

I think al lot of the problem with getting more folks vaccinated is that Nancy Peolsi and other dem leaders did everything possible to scare people away from the vaccine when Trump was POTUS and running for re-election. Democrats didn't want voters to be hopeful abut corona until one of their own was in office.
They suggested that Trump rushed the vaccine or that he pressured the FDA. Just a bunch of nonsense by democrats. Don't say it didn't happen, either.Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.Comment

Canada will not welcome unvaccinated tourists for some time, Prime Minister Trudeau says
- “I can tell you right now that’s not going to happen for quite a while,” said Trudeau, when asked by reporters when Canada would allow unvaccinated tourists to enter the country.
- Canada, as of this week, has waived quarantine requirements for fully vaccinated citizens.
- But non-essential foreign travelers are still not allowed to enter despite pressure from the country’s hurting tourism sector.
Some 78% of people aged 12 years or older in Canada have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, health officials said on Thursday. About 44% of people 12 years or older are fully vaccinated.
Governments in Canada and the United States have faced pressure to reopen the world’s largest land border, which has been shuttered to non-essential travel since March 2020. The current restrictions are in place at least until July 21.
A White House official told Reuters on Wednesday that a reopening of U.S. borders to many global tourists will still need more discussion.Comment

The slowdown has put Black Americans behind the pace set over the past month by other racial and ethnic groups tracked by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The trend line worries health officials and experts who say the immunization drive is running into a particularly complex web of distrust, outreach challenges and stubborn barriers to access.
The administration had long anticipated that vaccinating minority groups and other hard-to-reach populations would require a concerted effort, prompting it to assign several Covid-19 response officials to focus on equity issues, in addition to creating the outside task force. The administration and public health experts continue to believe many members of the groups aren't openly hostile to vaccines, but need reassurance and prodding to get the shots.
