... it looks like the ex President is cooked and Ron Desantis, Governor of Florida will lead the Republican Presidential ticket in 2024.

Trump is "not an impressionable child," he is responsible for his actions: Rep. Cheney said that the new strategy of Trump's allies in defending him appears to be that Trump was "manipulated by others outside the administration" like attorneys John Eastman or Sidney Powell or Rep. Scott Perry. "The strategy is to blame people his advisers called, quote, the crazies, for what Donald Trump did. This, of course, is nonsense," Cheney said, adding that Trump is a 76-year-old man and "not an impressionable child." She added: "Just like everyone else in our country, he is responsible for his own actions and his own choices.

Shares of EV maker Canoo are surging after Walmart agrees to buy 4,500 electric delivery vans

        • Walmart will buy at least 4,500, and up to 10,000, of Canoo’s electric delivery vans.
        • The vans are expected to go into service in 2023.
        • Shares of Canoo were up more than 70% after the news.

Electric vehicle startup Canoo said Tuesday Walmart has agreed to buy at least 4,500 of its upcoming electric delivery vans, in a significant win for the embattled vehicle maker.

Shares of Canoo were up more than 70% in early trading after the news was announced.

Walmart has signed a “definitive agreement” to purchase at least 4,500, and possibly as many as 10,000, of its all-electric Lifestyle Delivery Vehicles, a small electric van designed for local delivery service, Canoo said.

Walmart is leaning on its thousands of stores to deliver online purchases quickly and at a lower costs — and compete with Amazon, an online rival known for its speed. It has rolled out and expanded e-commerce services, including InHome, which delivers groceries directly to customers’ fridges and Express Delivery, which drops purchases at shoppers’ doors in two hours or less. Unlimited home delivery of groceries is also a key perk of Walmart+, an annual membership service that the big-box retailer wants to grow.

But to expand those services, it needs more delivery vans. InHome is powered by an all-electric fleet.
Canoo marks the third major deal signed by Walmart for electric vans. Early this year, Walmart reserved 5,000 electric vans from General Motors subsidiary BrightDrop. It also bought 1,100 electric vans from Ford E-Transit, some of which it is already operating.

The big-box retailer plans to use electric vans from all three companies for InHome and other local deliveries. It intends to increase the availability of InHome from 6 million to 30 million households by the end of this year, as it adds major metros like Los Angeles and Chicago.

The shift also comes at a time when fuel is weighing on Walmart’s profitability and making online deliveries more expensive. The company said last week in a memo that it would charge some suppliers new fees to transport goods to its warehouses and stores.

Canoo’s vans will be built at its Oklahoma factory and are expected to begin going into service next year. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Canoo is one of several U.S.-based electric vehicle startups to have gone public via mergers with special purpose acquisition companies, or SPACs. The company’s shares briefly surged to over $20 after its stock market debut in late 2020, but have slid since co-founder and CEO Ulrich Kranz departed last year.

As of Tuesday morning the stock was trading closer to $4 per share.

Jan. 6 hearing conjures chilling picture of future Trump tyranny

As their final act nears, the House January 6 hearings have evolved from documenting a stain on history to warning of a violent and tyrannical future that awaits if Donald Trump is allowed to again unleash America's pent-up extremism.

In the latest episode of its limited season television event, the House select committee on Tuesday traced Trump's links to and inspiration for far right-wing groups that came to Washington to help his mob smash its way into Congress in early 2021. These were the forces that heeded the ex-President's call to "fight like Hell" to thwart President Joe Biden's election, including the Oath Keepers militia and the Proud Boys he once told to "stand back, and stand by" on national TV.

"What else is he going to do if he gets elected again?" former Oath Keepers spokesman Jason Van Tatenhove asked during testimony in which he warned that the ex-President would "whip up a civil war among his followers, using lies and deceit" if he launches another campaign for the White House in 2024.

The scenario he raises is hardly hypothetical since Trump and his true believers never halted his assault on democracy. The former President is escalating his lies about non-existent voter fraud in 2020. He's salivating about another presidential campaign he would use as a new platform for his misinformation. Countless Republican candidates are running in the midterm elections on his lies about a stolen presidential election.

Doubts Trump sowed about election integrity have triggered recent showdowns over certifying results in New Mexico and Pennsylvania and a barrage of state laws that make it harder to vote and easier to interfere in results. And the Trump wing of the Republican Party is still marching toward authoritarianism. For instance, the Conservative Political Action Conference has invited Hungarian strongman Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who rolled back judicial independence, press freedom and democracy, to a Texas conference next month at which Trump is also slated to speak.

And in a stunning coda to Tuesday's hearing, committee Vice Chair Liz Cheney, a Wyoming Republican, said that Trump had placed a call to a witness not yet seen in the hearings, in a possible case of attempted tampering that has been referred to the Justice Department.

Shock Poll: Democrats closing gap with Republicans ahead of midterm elections

Democrats surveyed in the poll believe gun policies are the most important issue facing America today

A new poll has found that Democrats and Republicans are neck and neck in the upcoming midterm elections, with Democrats citing gun violence as their number one concern even as the economy continues to tumble.

The Sienna College Research Institute poll, conducted on behalf of the New York Times between July 5 and 7 among 849 registered voters, found the race to control Congress is tight, with voters preferring Democrats to Republicans by just one percentage point, 41%-40%. Nineteen percent of respondents remain undecided.

However, among likely voters, the Times noted that 44% favored Republicans while 43% expressed support for Democrats in congressional races.

While Republicans place significant focus on the economy ahead of the midterm elections, with 29% labeling it as the "most important problem" facing America today, Democrats who took part in the poll believe there are higher priorities.

Only 13% of Democrats labeled the economy as the most pressing crisis in the U.S., compared to the 17% who insisted gun policies are the most important concern. As for inflation and the cost of living, 26% of Republicans and 10% of Democrats listed it as the number one issue.
The poll also found an overwhelming 77% of those surveyed believe the nation is headed in the "wrong direction." Among party lines, 89% of Republicans believe the U.S. is headed in the wrong direction, compared to 63% of Democrats. Ten percent said they are unsure or do not have an opinion.

Of those that took part in the poll, 87% of Republicans stated they are almost certain or very likely to vote in the November general election, compared to 90% of Democrats.

Inflation accelerated more than expected to a new four-decade high in June as the price of everyday necessities remains painfully high, exacerbating a financial strain for millions of Americans and worsening a political crisis for President Biden.

The poll, which was conducted in English and Spanish on landline and cellular telephones, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1%.
