[WTF] Can we remove the politics from this site?

I think this site should remove political threads. They are only grounds for posting headlines and arguing. If they contained any reasonable discussion and debate I'd see a point otherwise it's just a tiny version of reddit or twitter. I really don't see any upsides to keeping that area around. Pretty much there is just two camps stubbornly in place. Each know what they want and all that allowing them to interact does is make me wish the internet didn't exist . (certain people are worse then others and we all know who)

It has been discussed it Site Feedback and Questions. The problem is how to decide if the a thread is political. There have been threads that were intended to be informative but turned into political by certain individuals. An example is one I started, Latest on the Corona Virus.

Do you think that we should instead go after those few individuals and either remove their posts or flat out remove them? To do that would require some moderators that would have the responsibility read everyone of those posts and take action. And how do you make certain the action taken is not done on a political basis?

As for me, I just keep the major offenders that vert seldom post anywhere else on my Ignore List. With the new software version, I can see if they are the last one to post to a thread but if I open the thread their post is not shown at all. It is almost as though they no longer exist.

I don't see where anyone is interacting. I'm certainly not. They try to interact with me but I just ignore 'em. Best decision ever.

Guilty as charged but I told everyone I was done done with that. Promise made, promise kept.

Even if we did just go after the offenders it would still appear political even if we were avoiding that. I can't say exactly what the perfect answer is but it'd be really nice to have fruitful conversations on this site for once.

Blocking specific people could be a solution. But not a perfect one

Here's my opinion and I suspect it will be unpopular. But here goes.

I'm a free speech guy. If there's something on here that upsets anyone, don't read it. Block that user(s). If a member doesn't do any of that, then that's on him.

With that being said, I'm down with whatever the powers that be decide.

I have attempted to have meaningful and truthful conversations with all contributors to this thread but it always ended with them hurling insults and disturbing comments. I'm not claiming innocence just adding information.
Calling for the blocking of violators is calling for your own blocking.

If either one of you wants to have an actual conversation, by all means, let's do it.

I never remember you trying with me maybe I'm not remembering. And you whip yourself into a frenzy all the time you have to chill. TBH your character on here doesn't lead me to believe that you ever were arguing in good faith from the start. Either way, I'm not blocking anyone but I'll definitely avoid all threads that are 100% talking points and repeating party mantras.

I have never seen him have a meaningful and truthful conversation with anyone from the other side of the political spectrum. He has even denied having posted something he posted a couple of posts earlier.

I don't recall ever being in a frenzy, my friend.
Look back into my conversations with Billy. They all start with me attempting to hold an adult conversation and always end with him insulting me and hurling disturbing comments. I do admit I sometimes participated in his style of debate but usually I would try to change the subject.
Avoiding the threads you don't like is a very good decision.

Until you choose to block me, best decision ever, you were the worst offender Slim.

I would say if you don't like it just don't read it and if enough go with that it will go away. I believe too much in society these days people try and remove stuff they don't like but to the people that do its unfair. I choose not to get involved in those talks it just becomes to heated but i do not think they should be removed . Free speech. People get too butt hurt these days and cant have a calm discussion especially about politics. Very sensitive world we live in now .

I think I may be changing my mind. Get rid of the political forum.

It hasn't gone away and its has been over 4 years. In fact they keep spewing their hate, based on the titles of the threads they have started lately.
