This week, we lost a $320,000 agreement that had been signed for work in the Marble Mountain Wilderness. Another $50,000 for work on the PCT went up in smoke.
Meantime, the Forest Service fired a bunch of people and there's more demand on our mission than ever.

What is Siskiyou Mountain Club going to do? Our executive director will give you a hint: "I ain't kissing anybody's ring."

More on that, some colorful quotes, a few facts and more in the next and very special issue of the Siskiyou Hiker. Make sure you're subscribed at siskiyoumountainclub.org/calendar/ for the latest updates from America's great public lands.

4 air crashes in 3 weeks

Delta Air Lines flight DL4819, operated by Endeavor Air, is a scheduled flight from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). On February 17, 2025, the flight departed Minneapolis at 10:40 AM CST and was scheduled to arrive in Toronto at 1:44 PM EST. The aircraft involved was a Mitsubishi CRJ-900LR, covering a distance of approximately 1,089 km, with an estimated flight duration of just over 2 hours.

Today, this flight experienced a significant incident upon landing at Toronto Pearson. Reports indicate that the aircraft, identified by registration N932XJ, crashed during landing, resulting in the plane flipping upside down. Emergency teams responded promptly, and all passengers and crew were accounted for. While most passengers appear to have escaped without serious injuries, paramedics reported multiple injuries, though specific details on the number and severity are not yet confirmed. The airport was temporarily closed.
We can't say airplane crashes are even up since last year. Idk what you're talking about. We have worse fatalities but overall less incidents. I'd say it's just unlucky and tragic.

Trump Fires Joint Chiefs Chairman Amid Flurry of Dismissals at Pentagon

The decision to fire Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., a four-star fighter pilot, upends a tradition in which the Joint Chiefs chairman traditionally remains in place as administrations change.

Let me explain how this works. There's only one person voted on by the entire voting block and that's the president. And he's the leader of the executive branch. He can hire or fire anyone that's under the executive branch. Since he's the commander in chief, that includes the general.

In an unprecedented purge of the military’s senior leadership Friday night, President Donald Trump fired the top US general just moments before his defense secretary fired the chief of the US Navy and the vice chief of the Air Force.

You know what would really impress me? If Canada and the other liberal countries would boycott our military and refuse any help if they are attacked.

Trumpy wants to install people in the military who will be loyal only to him so when he chooses, there will be no one to stop him.

I would rather have Air Traffic Controllers, Park Rangers, Cancer Research and Social Security than a $5000 check from DOGE
