    We're getting off topic.

This is really interesting, but slightly off topic.

How can we encourage ethical/professional behavior, and discourage unethical/unprofessional behavior on this site? There must be consequences of some sort, but what? What kind of carrots? What kind of sticks? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

It all comes back again to "show your credentials" . Close the site, have real techs prove it, we all can. send over some training certs and come up with a test for those who may be an independent tech , who does not work for a corporate outlet. Have an end user area where they can post questions. Then the ones who do not follow the rules will be banned.

I would vote for the "show your credentials" route, with a public and a private forum section.

I don't think I'd mind a "show/prove" your credentials route either.. It makes sense.. especially if there still is a "limited" public side..

          Regards!

This is the $64,000 question, it is easy to get the sticks out by banning people etc. but what incentives can there be?

One route could be to have a company name and number on a persons posts so if someone likes the info they get from that person then there is an oppertunity to doing further paid business with them.

Does anyone else have ideas for the incentives?

              Poll: Non-professional behavior.

I wouldnt mind a test but it should be something very basic. We dont want to discourage them because that would undermine the purpose of the forum. We are here to help newbies as well as more experienced techs, after all. Remember us techs are just as lazy. If they have to take a complicated test, they'll just go somewhere else. I dont believe that the whole site should have to be shut down to do it either. Have a "Certification Test" with a warning that those failing to take it before a certain time will have their account temporarily suspended until they take it and set something in place for any new applicants. Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldnt that be possible?

We should have a section for end-users, where we provide a level of answers without harassing them. When we get to the point where they need a tech, we tell them the next level is call a technician.

Thats my 2 cents for what its worth.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

i'm a newbie in this forum but i'm not a newbie in the field of business machines...

counter resetting is just a mere info on every copiers. it is nothing compared to giving out sp modes and software functions in a public forum... i am quite a reader... infact, some threads here sp modes and softwares are posted already for quite sometime now...

don't you think this poll/question is kinda too late for banning tech's/ members or whoever they are behind their keyboards.....
                        Just came out from hybernation.....

Make this simple people, we are getting nowhere( this remind me on me and bizy500 ). If u have certificate then u will pass and if not u will take exam like : " What does SOS in laser assembly stand for: 1.save our souls 2.start of sensor 3.start of scan" even tho this one is a bit tougher.

Or we will continue like we where till this day and kick/ban for 7 days who ever post any question it should not ask.

U cant stop them ALL (end users)

Personally I don't like to see a forum bogged down (or in many cases ruined) with too many hard line rules and red tape.
I much prefer just to intrust the admins and mods to keep a eye on things and make the judgement calls on what is acceptable or not.

That's not to mean I condone counter resetting, because I do not.

someone else's saying "tnx God for google search" end users always find ways or even find another open forum to ask what they need to know about their copiers.....

unless, big copier manufacturers will impose a rule that any open forum giving out any info on business machines will be dealt with serious charges to protect their company trade secrets...
