SF Bay Area Personal Vehicle Use Compensation

    Hi Guys,
I am a Bay Area tech using my personal vehicle.
For all of you other personal car drivers, how much is your company compensating you?
Is it a flat rate, cents per mile, a hybrid???
And how much, at this time, are you being compensated?
My company seem to believe that with gas at $4.25 a gallon a fair compensation would be $250 a month and .12 per mile.
    Thanks,
    Doug

Per month fixed rate, and per mile that +/- with price of gas..I believe we are around .28 per mile. The more you drive, the less you are compensated...however, I usually make up the difference at tax time...My fixed rate is taxed (as I drive an older vehicle), variable rate is not, so I add the milage for the year, times the per mile IRS rate, and subtract the non taxed portion as untaxed mileage re-imbursment. Personally I think you are getting screwed on your re-imbursment..when gas hits $6.00 + how can you even afford to drive at all? IMO Emujo
If you don't see your question answered in the forum, please don't think it's OK to PM me for a personal reply...I do not give out firmware and/or manuals.

Currently getting .36 a mile. It is on a sliding scale. Gas went up .28 in one month reimbursement went up .01. Wondering what other techs are getting especially Global Imaging techs.

As for global techs, it depends on which core company they work for.
And, I hope, it must depend on what area of the country you work in.

I'm not in SF bay area. My rate with the new company has been the always been the same, even with the recent gasoline price hikes. But it is higher than the old company ever was.

The territory I service covers about 4,000 square miles and crosses 7 counties. I am a map book kind of a guy but this territory would have required me to buy 7 books. Not really doable. So I bought a Garmin 2460 LMT (Lifetime Maps and Traffic). I Love It. For tracking my mileage I still do it the old fashioned way since the GPS reports are not the easiest to decipher. For the routing side, don't leave home without it. It is an intelligent GPS that learns as time passes by. This little guy repeatedly, though not daily, looks forward, sees traffic, and moves me around it. With this, I have learned great shortcuts even in areas I thought I knew. I also purchased the HD engine module that turns it into a full driving computer and allows me to monitor my MPG in real time and make adjustments to maximize my fuel economy. Last week I got a "Check Engine" light due to a loose gas cap. I was able to reset it through the GPS/HD. A very cool little box!

I think vincent64 meant if there was a GPS so that the company could track the tech. My company does not yet.... Rumor is that our blackberries are being replaced this month with android based phones. Who know what changes that will bring

That is what I meant, I thnk a lot of us have a GPS based nav system some where in our vehicles, mine is in the glove box now, dont need it when working my normal area.
I am talking about the kind that plugs into your OBD II port in your vehicle.
I think its GPS and cell based.

On mine, You purchase an additional module that plugs into your OBD II port. The module allows you, through the GPS to access your onboard computer. They connect with each other through Bluetooth, no cell. There are no tracking functions associated with it. It is just hard engine performance data.

I heard the GPS tracking devices came in and went into the vehicles Friday morning, what a way to kill a friday, one tech walked out, quit on the spot, other did not install it, they going to base out expense check on it, or how it shows miles traveled, also said for better call routing.
Sounds like big bro watching to much.

Better Call Routng? What a bunch of BS. Of course it is Big Brother watching. Nothing like a bunch of paranoid technicians to improve on productivity. I knew one guy who worked for a company under this type of a situation. What those techs did was to wrap the GPS in a mylar bag at random times during the day to prevent reception. When Big Bro, at the end of the month, drew down the data, they ony had 35% of the data they wanted, the rest were just blank holes where no information was recorded. That company assumed it was a failed experiment and got rid of the GPS units.

Just a quick update, the things came in last Fri. one tech quit on the spot, said he was not putting that into his car, and said you can keep it and walked out.
Some of the tech leave it in all the time, I removed mine at end of the day.

Cheating spouses beware! Seriously, a tech gets divorced and the spouse can now subpoena records of where they were at all times. Or, buy and install yourself.

You can bet your butt that, when my teen starts driving, it'll be installed!

To answer your original question I get the standard IRS rate which I think is currently 45 cents/mile. At 12 cents/mile that would not even cover the cost of gas and I have a very fuel efficient vehicle (35 MPG). I drive around 300 - 500 miles per week so you can compare that to what you are doing.
