To top it all off, the interlock that made sure that the finisher was in place was a micro-switch that opened the circuit when in place, instead of closing it.

    What a POS...
Lanier used to have the same (?) sorter. 10 bin, not connected, POS

On Ricoh's MPC range, they have a button on the right of the display, that if pressed makes the display buttons bigger - problem is that when this happens, half of the buttons disappear with it! If some ignoramous presses this, he then calls in to say that he can't find the check modes button which is usually along the top edge of the touch panel display! ARGH!!
        Press the GREEN button!!

Same thing on a lot of the Kyoceras. One of my customers calls it the "Simple View".
... simple ... that's accurate. Just like the users. =^..^=

            cheers

I was on a MXM550 course, this one guy would never go for lunch with us and liked to screw around with the copiers. Any ways we come back and the panel won't work on one of the machines any more. We swapped the panel, were about to change the MFP board until some body was frustrated with it and just kept pushing the button really hard and then it beeped. Turned out dipstick set the delay to 4 seconds and didn't even know he did it.

I was one of the last to leave to catch my flight and he was still trying to figure out the bug the instructor put in the copier on the practical test

Yep, I hate that "Simplified Display" button!

The worst part is that the screen stays in that mode even when re-powered.

We probably get a dozen calls a week for that wonderful little "feature".

On the 313Z there were four choices of Ready music based on dip switch settings:
                Home on the Range
Fleur De Lis or Fur Elise (I've heard it both ways)
                Chimes

And its not only the customers that get confused by that button, I've had field techs ring in asking if we have a spare op. panel as the screen on the copier their working on has just gone "funny"

Canon had one for the GP200 series some years ago.

While it took the standard sizes, it didn't work for beans.

Ricoh's @Remote service call feature... "A succession of paper jams... Press here to call for service." Except it never does and I get a call from a pissed off customer who thinks they placed a call 3 days ago.

...it's also supposed to automatically order toner when the machine says its low, and thank god they disabled that little jewel.

We have a CS-250ci that has paper drawers set to paper type. We set the fax to use plain paper but, when the fax confirmation prints it does it on the invoice paper. After speaking to Kyocera it seem that even though the confirmation is part of the fax, the engineers classified it as a report and therefore prints out as the default for the printer which in this case in on their invoice letterhead.

Guaranteed to have aggravated customers who can't seem to get toner - either because their machine won't order it or it's on permanent backorder because somebody else's machine keeps ordering them a closet full. Might do us some good if Ricoh keeps the toner bounty though.

We''ve got a nice little racket going over that. Most of our contracts are toner included and the boss got worried about how much toner customers
had sitting on the shelf and offered a $2 bounty for every cartridge we bring back. I might start marking a few toners to see how many times they get sent out to customers with the auto ordering system only to be brought back by the tech the next week.
