Minolta EP5400. Completely driven by crapy, hard to get at clutches, etc.

I have to say, its lovely hearing so many who must be as old as I am... After 30 and I really cant remember how many more years, and being trained on 7 lines and working on beaucoup of others, I'd have to say that most canon machines up to SOME of the imagerunners were oh so un-necessarily difficult to work on. Mita 513 took the cake with way too many problem codes... the manufacturer actually bought them back from us and after my TWO WEEKS of schooling on the 5585 and 7585?, we tenuously dipped our piggies back into the Mita waters. A great story on the NP80: one of our techs decided that a customers NP80 was long overdue for replacement and they weren't budging... so he opened up the machine and covers, and snipped a wire... and the machine continued to make the same decent copy as before. Soooo, opening up the covers and cutting a few more wires seemed to be in order... The venerable NP80 continued to soldier on as before. It took something like 20 or so cuts and I think finally killing the power supply before life ended. I hated those machines but somehow had to admit a bit of respect... just always wondered if all those stacked up boards had a purpose???

Then you'd love the Lanier 5603 (Ricoh DC-something-or-other3ppm-StoneAge-Color) It had a reputation for pissing oil on the floor even after all the mods were put in. Machine Noise during normal operation was described as "Two cats in a bag" and they actually sounded better when something was broken. It also had an internal Fiery that some brilliant engineer put right over the fuser.

I think it still might have been a better contraption than the AF1224c

I only have experience on Xerox and Ricoh machines, but in my experience I'd have to go back many years and say the Xerox 2300, shaped like a skip and that's where it belonged. Any copier that the mod for oil leaks was a chalk bag to place underneath it must have been a POS

Now I will agree with you on these, I seen many of them when starting out, the old SF-2116, 2118, 2020, 2120, if it used that little SF-216DR it was a pain, waste toner bottle on top of the drum unit, when full whole drum unit had to come out to empty, if you could, on yes, waste toner sat pretty dang nearly on top of the fuser unit, so waste toner came out in chunks, and working on the fuser unit...OMG...onl;y the upper half came out, lower roller stayed in thre, there was this plate that the sep fingers were in, most times we left the fingers out, just put the plate in, after you cleaned it off, needed a stubby to get that out, but had to keep the toner off, if it built up too much, it would lock the fuser up, and did I mention, it was a CLAMSHELL type, ie, vise grips on the strut
