Not that I am aware of. Regional domestic beers are popular such as Coors. Lately there have been local micro breweries that have become very popular. Personally when I was in college I had a preference for imported Germany lagers.Comment

Tried making some onion rings. Result was better than most takeout joints. Wondered why some places makes them decent and other are just a mess.
Trick seems to be in chilling the onion rings in ice water before dipping them in the batter to fry.
Used garum masala and salt in the batter and just a touch more baking powder than normal batter.
Any other tips?WhateverComment

Pesto is one of my favorite things but who can afford pine nuts. They are not easy to get here and the amount my apatite require makes it difficult. Was talking to the Indian lady at the spice shop about pine nuts and if she can import them when she asked me if I have ever tried water melon seeds. I have used pumpkin and sun flower seeds but had no idea about water melon seeds. Bought about a pound of it at a very reasonable price.
They roasted well but are not quite as oily as pine nuts but they did work real well. Made some basil, mint, and coriander pesto respectively. Its simple, some salt garlic oil and vinegar and presto have some pesto.
Sometimes Parmesan is called for depending on the need.
