Konica Minolta C253 grey pdf prints

First time poster please be gentle with me. I have a client who had a c252 that printed pdfs fine. After I installed a C253 the pdfs are now grey and not black. All the calibrations are done and I have used a PCL driver. The same pdf prints fine on my C280. I am heading there shortly to try different drivers. By the way the black test chart pdf is printing good too.

So my question is, would firmware make a difference as I do not have dealer access for firmware upgrades.
