Looking for help understanding industry terminology and abbreviations! Please!

    Hello!

I am new to the copier industry and I am having some difficulty understanding some of the abbreviations often used to describe what the copier specs are and what accessories it may or may not have. Might anyone be able to help me! What does PED mean? Is that Pin Entry Device?
what is NIC? I assume that DF stands for Document Feeder? or is that Finisher? DUP for Duplexing? Please forgive my ignorance but please help!

Welcome, a lot of the abbreviations are specific to the manufacturer, but I can say NIC is generic for "Network Interface Card".

Yes, I am finding that there is not a standardized terminology between companies when referring to accessories or specifications. Are LCT (large capacity tray) and HCT the same thing? I am newly working for a company that buys used copiers here in the US for export to China. But I am having a very difficult time reading some inventory lists because there seems to be so many different ways to abbreviate these things.

        for instance:

        Xerox 4127 [ (TKX) D5 BOOKLET FINISHER W/ 2/3 HOLE | DOC FEED | 4 DRAWERS | DUP | NET | PED | PRINT | (HAE) 412/4127 C/P FCW UI | SCAN ]

        Xerox 4127 [ SCAN | (HAE) 412/4127 C/P FCW UI | PRINT | PED | NET | (ACH) 4110/4590 HIGH CAP FEEDER | (MLA) STAPLER FIN 2/3 HOLE PUNCH | DUP | 4 DRAWERS | DOC FEED | ADOBE POSTSCRIPT 3 ]
        any help?

          Welcome

The amount of abbreviations in this industry is mind boggling, 6 years ago when I joined Ricoh, after having worked for Xerox for over 20 years, it was like starting all over again. Some abbreviations are universal (I think DF is always Document Feeder, but you may see is as ADF, ADH, RDF, etc.) LCT is large capacity tray, Xerox called the same thing an HCF (hagh capacity feeder).
Xerox use so many abbreviations, ROS (laser unit, it stands for Raster Output Scanner), CVT (exposure slit glass, it stands for constant velocity transport), I remember, years ago, that Xerox (in the UK anyway) produced a booklet with all their abbreviations in it LOL

I will take a guess that a "(HAE) 412/4127 C/P FCW UI" is a control panel, although I may be completely wrong.

Yes, UI is User Interface (so control panel), can't work out the rest though, but someone may trigger my memory

I think it's just a matter of reading the specs (specifications) of all machines. Every manufacturer has brochures for every type of machine which lists all available options. And yes, it can be confusing. Kyocera calls it Document Processor (DP) and Ricoh calls it ARDF and I can go on like this for a while... Reading is the only way to learn.

And if you think options are confusing, have a look at the electronics and how they are called...

Here is one you use to identify that the problem is the end user.

Error ID10t...That's how it should look on the ticket, here is what it means...idiot. I think this code crosses all brands.

In the 6 chapter of Xerox service documentation has a section glossary of terms. There you can find some answers.
XEROX EQUIPMENT IDENTIFICATION HANDBOOK can help you too.
