    Customer insists to use USB

One of my customers has his MFP connected with his computer using USB. He is however complaining that sometimes prints are coming out with delay and occasionally not at all, especially when using Adobe and/or Word.

The first mistake he made in my eyes is that the MFP has been installed using the automatic routine from Windows. A second mistake could be that he uses a docking station to connect his laptop to peripherals such as two monitors, an external USB hard drive, several USB-Sticks and of course our MFP.

I advised him strongly to hook up the MFP via LAN and with a dedicated manually installed driver. Not the automatic windows stuff. What do you guys think. Am I right in my opinion?

I can see at least two problems. The automatic Windows driver and the "docking station" which is most likely nothing more than a USB port expander connected to only one of the USB ports of the laptop. If those 2 monitors are going to take the majority of the band width even with USB 4.0, a port expander only adds ports and not band width.

Most likely the laptop has 3 USB ports, 2 Type A and 1 Type C. If1 is used for the port expander that leaves 2. The MFP should be connected to one and the external drive to the other.

As for the automatic Windows driver, it has probably installed a "MFP manufacturer" type driver. It is very generic and can be extremely slow.
