    \ becomes with Vista.

This happens only on this computer and both when I enter the path manually and also when I use the browse button to search for the path.

I had this once before with a XP computer and there it was an activated language pack but in this case with the Vista machine there has never a language nor keyboard pack been installed.

    Any idea's?

Can you use the "/" (forward slash) character instead?

FTP should work OK with it; not sure about the utility.

Keeping it simple: Try to write the path in a different program (like edit) and then just copy it over If this doesnt help you might want to check the keyboard layouts... maybe a wrong layout is present, even if its not the active one. Delete any unneeded or excess layouts and only leave the german layout in the list. Might just work.

You say Vista never got any language pack installed, but I think Vista already comes with such packs preinstalled. Try to check the keyboard settings as Wynard suggests, or the regional settings. I'm sure you'll find the culprit somewhere over there.

This same exact thing happened to me on a Windows XP once. That was the first and last time that has EVER happened to me in an XP environment.
In this case I had setup FileZilla FTP Server. It's super simple(FileZilla - The free FTP solution).

Also, I just tested the Konica FTP Utility in Vista Ultimate and it's doing the same thing. I would suspect Windows is to blame(incompatability, updates, whatever). I tried typing the path in Wordpad then doing a copy paste into the FTP Utility but the '\' gets replaced.

Oh, and I tried running it in Windows XP SP2 compatability mode, no luck.

That's normal, it doesn't hurt anything. The program is so old now.

QFT. It's unlikely to be updated anytime in the future, either. They stopped including it in the utility discs, and are pushing us to stop using it and use SMB instead.

Actually, they recently (about 3 months ago) released new scanning training for technicians. In their training course they push FTP because it is the simplest to get going -vs- all the problems a tech can run into with SMB.

The world use to be simple- fix the copier. Now it is fix the copier, network it, and solve the customer's print, scan, connectivity issues.

Is that confidential or could one have a copy of it?

Quick 'n Easy FTP Server Lite

Just in case you need it.

Though SMB scanning might be the future because of its simplicity I still believe Scan to FTP has its advantages too.
