    Scan via cross over cable

    I have a Muratec mfx 4550 (samsung 6345).

I can not configure the machine to scan SMB to my laptop directly with a cross over or standard network cable. I can take this same machine using the same settings and through the network it will scan SMB from the same machine to the same PC. I have tried multiple PC's and multiple Machines and it always works on network but never directly connected to verify there is not any hardware/software issues. It seems as I am configuring it wrong but what is different?

I go to Local connection, TCP/IP and change the ip address manually to be on the same network as machine. I can ping the copier and access the web browser just fine.

    Any help will help.

The thing that I did wrong was to define my scan folder in the wrong place. On SMB Setup, Server List page, add, name your scan shortcut with no spaces or punctuation, use IP of your laptop, radio button for IP, put the name of the scan folder on the line Share Folder, enter your PC Username-Password-Domain. and your finished. Don't put anything on the line Scan File Folder. You'll have more success with IP over hostname. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

When scanning to SMB via the crossover, are you trying to use DNS names or IP addresses?

A copier hooked up via a crossover cable won't get DNS information unless your laptop is acting a DNS server. Try straight IP addresses for your UNC path on the copier and see if that helps.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

Yes I have been using IP addresses, stumped I can hook my laptop up to all my Bizhubs just fine but having no luck at all with this series. I know what you mean about leaving the scan file folder blank, because my scans is right on the root. I have to believe it is configured right because it works on the network. This is frustrating because I can not prove if it is the network or my machine on calls if I can not hook my laptop up directly. Thanks for help any other suggestions?

What anti virus software are you running? Got a firewall running on your PC?
Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

Is your laptop part of a domain? If so I have not been able to do this successfully without having It set up a "local user" on the computer. They lock it down so We can not change anything. On the network it works because the domain is available for authentication.

Even if your current user doesn't use a login/password, set up a user (which doesn't have to be open/active) with a login & password so that your SMB scans will go through. Keep it simple. =^..^=

Hi, I have used the crossover cable to my laptop with this model to scan and it definitley works. I too was trying to prove to the customer that scans were being blocked by a network issue. My laptop os is xp and I set it up using my ip address in the same range as the samsung,set-up my SCAN folder in the root of the "Cdrive" shared with full permissions, added "netscan" to firewall exceptions and any related samsung program, hope this helps in some way..

Perhaps you're trying to scan using the computer name instead of the IP address?

Usually when scanning via network, you have a DNS server assigned to the computer and the machine; using the crossover cable, there's no DNS server.

If you're using the computer name as destination, try to use its IP address instead.
